6 year old recurrent sore tummy

Really hoping someone can help, writing this at 5:30am up with her and worried.
she has “sore tummy” every day, at least 3 times then again in evening before bed. Can’t link it to any specific foods. She’s now up with it at 5am and very thirsty alongside it. she only settled with it at 11pm last night so will be off school again tomorrow which is a lot of school missed and another day off work for me which is becoming more stressful.
think it’s cramps. Comes in waves and she is ok in between. No temp, no vomiting though says she feels sick at times with it. She poops every day and I’d say this is more frequent just now but it’s not diahhrea/ constipation.
she was very poorly back in November and in hospital with a uti, norovirus and camphylocater and lost lots of weight due to horrendous diahhrea for 10 days. Since then I’d say she’ll slowly putting that weight back on so not actively losing weight.
no other symptoms apart from cough that is new and I guess unrelated.
what do I do? It’s not an emergency job, it’s not consistent enough to be appendicitis but Gp just says kids are prone to sore tummies. But she’s missing school, I’m missing work and her pain is genuine - when it happens she goes very quiet, pale and hols where it hurts.
im worried, I’m tired and I just need a fellow mama to tell me what to do next. Thank you.

@wobblymum1 - as PP have said, definitely request a coeliac screen. Both my DC were the same - my DD especially so. She had a bad bug back in Feb 2021 and had awful tummy pains, sickness, headaches, vomiting etc and after being fobbed off by the GP (we saw her 8 times over a year) she was finally given a blood test in April 2022 which revealed her TTGA levels were over 250 (that's the max the count up to but likely her count was higher and levels should be below 15...). Honestly, as soon as we stopped gluten, it was like she was a different child. Get that blood test though as soon as you can. Whenever you have a bad bug, it can trigger coeliac disease (ours was also hereditary from my family, unfortunately"). My DS had tummy aches every day for a month and the doc wanted to do a blood test but then we found out DD was coeliac and that led to DS being diagnosed with OGD + blood test. Hope your DD feels better soon.

I had no idea of this, thank you so much for letting me know. I’m so glad all her pain stopped x

Hello all,
had a bit of a rubbish morning as head called me in after drop off to say she’s concerned as my dd attendance is quite low. I explained she’s had a lot of sore tummies and I’m doing all I can but she said it will need to increase or will be a referral to an attendance officer as it’s out of her hands and she’s missing a lot. I just burst into tears when I got to my car after it as I don’t want her missing school, it’s massively stressful for me having to miss work to stay home with her and I really do all I can to get her to school but it’s the fact she keeps picking up bugs that means she’s missed a lot. I think it’s just been a breaking straw for me as I was already worried for her and now it’s leading to school problems as jd and I just feel I’m failing despite trying my best ☹️

Oh bless you, OP. We had the same with DD as she physically was too unwell to go and we weren’t getting anywhere with a diagnosis, so I know how frustrating it is for you. I would keep persevering for answers with the doctors. I hope she is better soon x

Honestly don't worry. My nephews attendance was down to 65% with illness. The attendance officer was called and basically was like
"It's a poorly child what do you expect!"

Really? Oh my gosh thank you. This helps! I felt so stupid sitting in the office saying “well I know she’s missed a lot but she’s been poorly so I don’t know what else I can do” with her saying “the attendance has been really not great, we / you need to get her in more” and I just felt like a kid again but a worried one. Ugh. Thank you 💞

Thank you so so much. That’s what was making me upset, it’s not like I want her to be at home and me missing work and getting a row from work for that too!

Could you talk to the school?

I'm talking to my DD's school and doing what we can at home. At the moment they think it's anxiety and have put measures in place. She is a sensitive one so I think it's very possible to be the cause for her. We are keeping a log of anything else just in case though, the tonsillitis theory is interesting as DD often says she has a sore throat and is prone to viral tonsillitis.

Maybe be honest with the head/teacher and say you're at an loss as to what it is but she is ill. Personally, I'd maybe video what it's like if it can be done it discretely. Could they support maybe they can write a letter to state your child is missing a lot of school and get the GP moving on looking into it more or a referral to a paediatrician?

Also a thought, when she is at home and off sick, is she laid up the whole day? Is she watching TV?

Ds age 6 similar at the moment. We’ve cut dairy and egg out and he’s now pooing every day with no tummy ache…except today at school! He needed a poo tho and got home. Did one. Tummy ache gone. I also ply him with as much fruit and veg as I can!

I became lactose intolerant age 18, so yes can come on any time. I did exclusion diet under guidance of an NHS nutritionist my GP referred me to. Really hope your little one feels better soon x

Hi 👋 just wondering if anyone has had this with their child, my daughter who is 9 has been complaining of a sore tummy and feeling sick just about 4 weeks now. I’ve had her up to the hospital and they took bloods urine etc and told me she had a red throat and it was most likely mesentric adenitis. I took her back to the GP a few weeks after and they done further examination and said her ear was a bit red and gave her a spray for her ears. She is back to school but every day/night she is still complaining of not feeling well, sore tummy and feeling sick. I don’t know what to do next as everything came back okay, just wondering if anyone else’s child has had this and how long it lasted. I have asked her if anything else is bothering her and she likes school and nothing else going on, she did loose her grandad last year but she hasn’t mentioned this any help would be much appreciated thanks 😊
