I’ve noticed this in my daughters mouth she’s in no pain just wondering if anyone knows what it could be? She’s autistic and hates the dentist

How old is she? If she’s around 11-13 then it could well be a piece of the baby tooth. Well worth getting checked out

Sitodeb · 10/01/2023 16:21

She’s 10

Sorry to derail the thread but my autistic dd10 also hates the dentist ! Does yours manage to go at all?

SouperNoodle · 10/01/2023 16:24

Commenting to save the thread to come back to.
DH is a dentist so I'll send him the photo and come back with what he says 😊

She’s been twice they wanted to give her 6 fillings on her baby teeth but she wouldn’t let them, she doesn’t mind them looking but they can’t touch them

I’m a paediatric dentist. Could you get a closer picture, possibly by having her lay her head in your lap?

Did she have any teeth extracted when she was younger, possibly under general anaesthetic? Has she had decay in her baby teeth? It’s likely to be a root remnant of a primary tooth.

X

Could she referred to paediatric dentist, possibly at a community dentist or dental hospital? We have more resources and time (and training) than the average general dentist. X

DH says it looks like the root of a baby tooth

Sitodeb · 10/01/2023 21:04

so it should fall out when her big teeth come through?

so it should fall out when her big teeth come through?

DH "the baby teeth in that area have already gone so no, they won't push it out.
It won't need to be taken out unless painful or infected but you might want to get it done before it gets to that stage.
There's a mark on the inside of her cheek. Is it an ulcer?"

MrsMorton · 10/01/2023 21:11

Looks like a remnant of a decayed baby tooth.

whats toothbrushing like OP? Do you see a community dentist?

those teeth plus the big one behind are for life now so hopefully you're managing to clean back there.

Does she have issues with foaming or strong taste? There are other options if so.

I disagree, I think it will work its way out once that premolar is fully erupted.

Sitodeb · 10/01/2023 21:18

so these back teeth are her big teeth I thought these were still baby teeth? She’ll brush them with certain toothpaste but it’s a fight to get her to

MrsMorton · 10/01/2023 21:26

They are her adult teeth. She will have got the big one about 3-4 years ago.

Sitodeb · 10/01/2023 21:33

Is this tooth a still a baby tooth?

DH "it's hard to see from that angle, could you get a better picture?"

Sux217 · 10/01/2023 22:12

Your latest photo isn't clear enough OP to distinguish whether that's an Upper E (deciduous molar) or partially erupted UR5 (permanent premolar) with a retained URE; however, there is definitely gross caries present regardless of tooth nomenclature.

Op. She needs to see a dentist. There are ways around her "hating" it. Please get her onto a community waiting list or something. MN isn't the place to get health advice for vulnerable children, especially those with additional needs.

None of the dentists or dentist adjacent posters on here can help you secure the health of your daughter. She needs to be seen and assessed in person, along with dietary advice and bespoke advice on oral hygiene by someone working within special care dentistry.
