How can I get dd to take calpol?

Dd 9 can’t stand calpol or any other generic version. She has come out with chicken pox today and has a temp I really need her to take some. She has tried but was nearly sick I’m not sure if it’s taste or texture.
is there anything I can add it into? Or any other suggestions of what to do?
thanks

My DD (10) is the same, she has always hated calpol and refuses to take it. However she will take paracetamol tablets if they are broken in half.

lilichi · 05/01/2023 13:39

Mix it into yoghurt?

Jules912 · 05/01/2023 13:40

My DD is similar and we discovered the fastmelt tablets which she will tolerate unless she has a sore throat.

Can you use a baby calpol syringe and get her to squirt it into the back of her mouth, followed by a drink… might bypass the taste buds?

PrayingandHoping · 05/01/2023 13:41

Mix it in a yoghurt or smoothie or anything strong tasting that she'll take

justasoul · 05/01/2023 13:41

Calpol melts? DD also struggles with normal calpol but can (just about) put up with the melting ones, followed by a large drink.

Try orange juice. My mum got us to take cod liver oil that way!

DecommissionedVag · 05/01/2023 13:44

If my dd needs to take medicine that she doesn't like then I mix the dose into one of those small petit filous yoghurts (but I don't tell her) and get her to eat it.

Baconand · 05/01/2023 13:44

I had tablets at that age, I could swallow them fine. I hate liquid medicine and my mum got me on to tablets asap. I practiced with vitamin tablets!

Or you could try the dissolvable ones but they are disgusting. I wouldn’t take those even in a nice drink.

When ds was having problems taking calpol, I ground up half a paracetamol tablet, mixed it with honey and put it on buttered toast

You need to make sure it is all eaten to be sure of the dose but it worked

Try to incorporate into whatever your dc will eat.

MaverickGooseGoose · 05/01/2023 14:01

Meltlets or give her have a tablet

twoandcooplease · 05/01/2023 14:06

I had tablets that age too. I've never been able to take medicine. My mum and dgm used to tip me upside down and pour it in or pin me to the sofa to take it

Natsku · 05/01/2023 14:08

Melt in the mouth ones but if she won't take those (not sure what the calpol ones taste like but the ones in my country are horrible, make me feel sick, but my children are fine with them) then teach her to swallow tablets. Break them/chop them into half or quarters if possible and swallow with plenty of water.

Dahlia444 · 05/01/2023 14:08

Tablets at that age (I might have done a dance of joy when DS took a tablet for the first time). We resorted to paracetamol suppositories before that which were amazing and DS was very compliant with when he felt terrible.

ImAvingOops · 05/01/2023 14:11

I used to buy junior disprol and dissolve it in juice. I also had a child who would point blank refuse any kind of medication - junior disprol was a life saver.

Perfect28 · 05/01/2023 14:18

Tablets?

Bobbinsbop · 05/01/2023 14:21

Thank you everyone, I didn’t know calpol did fast melts I don’t know how they passed me by! I’ll give those a try and if no luck I’ll try the other suggestions.

Paracetamol in tablet form crushed & mixed in a spoon of nutella/melted chocolate/peanut butter/cream cheese or dissolved in a hot drink.
