dd buckle fracture, pain killers?

Dd6 fell down the stairs late last week and I could tell from how she was holding her left arm that she wasn't right and needed to be checked

To be fair, our hospital got her x rayed (diagnosed with a buckle fracture) and into a splint and sling fairly quickly. We just needed to wait a good few hours to have her signed off by the Dr before we could go home

We've been alternating paracetamol and ibuprofen every 4 hours for her, but at times she's still saying that it's painful. She's back at school on Wednesday and I'm just hoping for some advice as to what pain killers to send in with her, and if anyone has an idea if the school will refuse to alternate them with slightly overlapping times?

What we've pretty much been doing is
7am paracetamol
11am ibuprofen
3pm paracetamol
7-8pm ibuprofen (she has this at bedtime)
12am paracetamol (she tends to wake around this time)

But I'm wondering if I should alter the times slightly during the daytime?

You could put in some extra doses tbh.

Paracetamol can be given six hourly and the frequency of Ibuprofen depends on the dose but is either six hourly (5mg/ kg) or eight hourly (10mg/kg)

It's a bit odd that it's still so sore - is she in a cast/ splint? That usually helps a lot. At a week post injury I'd be expecting her just to need some analgesia before bed and would be a little concerned if she is needing more.
Do you have access to fracture clinic?

As an aside - kids aren't always great at reporting pain but you know your daughter and are best placed to tell if it truly is sore or she is just using the word pain because that's one she knows to report an odd sensation.

I would read school attendance policy and I would advise you to talk to them. Just before Chris holiday started ds2 was ill and on antibiotics.
After couple of days of antibiotics he felt better and school said to bring him in. One of his dose was during school time. They told me to come to reception when he was due antibiotics and they would bring him to me, so I could give it to him. Then return him back to his class.

This suited me as I don't work currently.

Schools tend to only give ibuprofen if it's prescribed. They can give paracetamol, usually. Could you give ibuprofen at 8 am, then school can give paracetamol if needed at lunch time, then you can give ibuprofen again after school if needed.

@AdelaideRo I don’t think it continuously hurts her as she’s pretty much covered with the medicine, but she’ll have twinges occasionally that cause her pain and do upset her. Normally she’s one not to be fussed by a bit of pain. She’s done a similar fall before and was out and playing with her friend within 10 minutes (I was stood at the kitchen window keeping an eye on her)

She wears a splint and a sling at the moment

We were also given an information leaflet about the fracture and told to get back in touch if it’s still bothering her in 6 weeks time

Our school is happy to give doses of medicine if we fill out a form at reception. I might give them a call tomorrow as it’s an inset day, so I can check everything out before Wednesday

My 10yo broke his humerus recently, it was a bad break that required an operation and wires fitted 🙈 once we were home after our hospital stay of one night and day he was in pain for about 3 days-pain where he needed painkillers (we got paracetamol and bruphen from the hospital) so maybe if it’s still bothering her in a few days phone 111. Regarding school I’d just dose her up just before you leave.
