Newborns and flu

Hi, I have a nearly 7week old baby. My husband has the flu at the moment and staying in a different room and wearing a mask and we are spending most of our time away in the bedroom. Although we spent time near him and people who we believe he got it from, just before it all kicked off. I am now terrified I got it and I have my baby. I think I can feel something scratchy in my throat. I'm scared for my baby, what can happen if we have it? 😩 I had the flu jab in Sep/oct but I know obviously it doesn't offer 100% protection.

Little babies often have a lot of antibodies from you still, and IME both of mine as newborns if they've got bugs have had them far milder than me and DH! Most likely they'll be just fine. Second babies in particular are exposed to a lot of bugs that can't really be avoided - my DD2 had two colds in the first six weeks thanks to DD1 at nursery but she was absolutely fine and at 6mo is very robust Smile

@Hugasauras thank you for responding... I hope so, I'm really worried, he's not even old enough to have calpol. 😞

I agree try not to worry my DS caught covid at 6 weeks old and DD had RSV when she was just 12 days old.

Keep an eye on him like you would anyways and maybe get some vapour rub / nose drops . I found these always help when mine have a cold!

try not to worry too much xx

Do you breastfeed? Give them extra boobie! And can have calpol at 8 weeks I know it doesn't help now but not long. When ever I was ill I never wore a mask or anything. They need to build up an immune system and the only way is for them to get poorly to do so. Your baba will be fine.

@ScoobyBooby @Emmamoo89 thank you xx
I worry for my baby when I see how it is for my husband...I hope he'll be ok. I am yet to see tomorrow how I feel but I can definitely feel something happening in my throat 😑 oh and yes, I breastfeed. I didn't wear a mask with my baby as we're pretty much inseparable but I wore it when in the same room with my husband but I think that was pointless too as we were with him just as he started showing symptoms. It's unavoidable when you live together isn't it..

DD was admitted to hospital needed a feeding tube and oxygen she was in for 5 days! Not going to lie it was horrendous .

DS was nose congested and had a temp off his feeds a little .

DD is now 7 and DS is 7 months . They are both fine health wise x

Me and my partner have both been really ill past couple of days with a flu, and we have a 3 month old. We've really tried our best to keep him safe from it with hand washing constantly and minimising our time spent with cuddles and close contact etc. My partner is on day 5 of illness and I'm on day 2 and now it seems my little one has caught it. He's sneezing alot, has a cough and is a little sicky. I do have anxiety and I am a first time mum so my brains running a little wild atm, has anybodys little one caught an illness at 3 months and been okay? When should I be worried? What can I do to help him? How do I keep his fluids up as I pump breast milk as he isnt the best at latching (born with tongue tie) but due to being ill I've not been producing as much as I was before so I'm having to give an occasional bottle.. any help and reassurance is greatly appreciated!
