Happy New Year

Has anyone ever heard of anyone with Strep G. Since September my DS (7) has been out of sorts and at times quite poorly with very high temps etc. He complains of a sore mouth (not throat) and painful knees/hips. After no antibiotics for years he has had a 10 day antibiotic (phenoxymethylpenicillin) three times. In both Nov and then 4 weeks later in December the doctor said scarlet fever. On the last appointment his throat was swabbed and the result showed Strep G. His bloods were also taken but the lab lost them and they have to be repeated after xmas. He finished the third antibiotic 2 weeks ago and has started complaining of the same symptoms again and I'm getting very frustrated as it seems to escalate. I can find very little info online and nurse friends don't seen to know much about it. The doc said its not common and phenoxymethylpenicillin should have sorted it out. Any advice would really be appreciated.

Hi there,
I am looking for some hope here.
Please can you let me know what happened with your child. What help did you get, has he recoverred fully now.
My son has been treated for Strep A for the 4th time and using the same antibiotic and does not help, he starts gettimg the symptoms aprox 10 days after finishing the antibiotics.
I will be really grateful if you can share some experience.
Thank you

Have you had any throat swabs showing Strep during the illnesses? The symptoms are often non-specific, and though it's reasonable for GPs to treat for Strep as a possibility, many of these cases are actually because of viruses (usually a different one each time) and the children would get better without antibiotics.

Hi there, yes all the time it was confirmed with a swab. I feel so helpless he has had 5 courses of antibiotics, I even went and paid for a private ENT specialist who.prescribed Amoxiclav for 14 days and this thing is still lingering. I am sure he is gettong down with it again. Our GP continues to prescribe him.the same antibiotics as the abtibiogram shows that the bacteria is sensitive to it, but it does not erradicate it. I dont know what to ask from the GP, he is just so.relaxed, and for me this is a serious problem.
The infection occurs together with a inflamed sinuses and such an awful colour of nose mucus which clearly shows there is an infection in there.
No ome has given him anything for the nose , meaning, any antibiotic drops , because I believe the bacteria is lingering in the nose as well.
I am just so worried , I really.dont know what to do.anymore
