Lump on 6 year old leg.

My daughter seems to have a lump at the back of her knee cap in her leg and it's sent me down a rabbit hole of despair. She is totally wellI in herself and says it doesn't hurt . Docs can see her on 6 jan. Should I try and get it seen sooner?

Yes absolutely you can get them to see her earlier than that if you are worried. She is only 6 so they should be able to get a GP to see her for an emergency appointment. X

Yes, if it is a clear lump (e.g a firm pea) and no other injury / reason to explain it then I’d simply ask for a same day appointment and if you cannot get that then I would head to A&E in the next day as you’ll get blood tests and a scan I’d imagine, which will put your mind at rest. Unless it is clearly a pimple, in which case I’d not be concerned.

There is no harm in seeing if there is an earlier appointment. However, if she’s generally ok I really don’t think this is an a&e trip as it is neither an accident nor an emergency. A&E is a nightmare at the moment and I think this comes in part from people using them as a rapid gp option to get their ailments solved, or hoping it opens the door more quickly to teating etc. We are living in a more ‘instant’ society and it seems many people have that expectation now with their healthcare. A&E is not designed for this - your gp is surely your first stop. I hope you get some answers - maybe it is a small cyst. Obviously if they become clinically ill with red flag symptoms then a&e or utc may be a suitable route.

Thank you ... I spoke to GP today on phone and he said he thinks it's fluid build up. If she become poorly and unwell get her to A&E but he is not overly concerned ans said this is more common than we think. A good tip was when her leg is folded you can't really feel it ... it's more when it is straight it bulges out . Thank you for all your support and feed back
