Has anyones DC had a gunky eye?

My DD who is 16 months has had a lot of greeny yellow eye gunk since Xmas Eve, obviously all shops etc have been shut and I've just been bathing it in cool boiled water but it hasn't improved.

Does anybody know if I can get anything for this OTC at a pharmacy or if I need to make a GP appointment? Our surgery is ring up at 8am for same day appointments so I will if I need to but it would much easier to run out to the chemist when they open.

If I recall correctly my chemist wouldn't give under 2 without GP seeing first, but try a chemist as more likely to find one open and see what they say then if they won't do anything, you have more oomph if you need to ring gp.

My 6 month dd had something very similar, a very watery eye that started to go a bit gunky with green stuff. I took her to the pharmacist at Lloyd's and she gave her a an antibiotic ointment which has improved it a lot.

You could add some salt to the cooled boiled water to help kill germs. Also, keep an eye (ha!) on whether it’s improving or getting worse. I’d make sure to act if it is getting worse.

Conjunctivitis is self limiting, however, antibiotic creams/drop will speed up to healing.

Cool boiled water with salt and make sure you are ripping a cotton ball in half and using the inside part against the eye. One swipe from nose side to temple side then bin. Use a new piece of cotton for every swipe outwards. Do this about 5 million (6-8) times a day. Do not re use the water/salt solution make new each time.

Also it's bacterial conjunctivitis if it's green/gungy. Highly contagious make sure your using separate towels/ face cloths/ pillows etc
