Recurrent tonsillitis

Is this normal for this Strep A that is doing the rounds?

Daughter had first bout starting 28th nov - doc only gave 5 days worth of penicillin and it came back on day 10 so she had another 10 day course which ended maybe a week ago.

She's woken up again today high temp 39.8 with more white spots and neck pain.

I'm going back to docs but I'm very worried why the ABs aren't getting rid of it fully?

Anyone else had this experience? We are all full of cold and in that week she had no tonsillitis we all got a vomiting bug instead so immune systems probably very low.

Also took her back to docs this morning and got more medicine, doc checked tongue and said it looked coated but didn't check for rashes or anything, got home and now she has the Scarlett fever sandpaper rash on her torso.

Is treatment for tonsillitis and Scarlett fever the same or do I need to ring docs again to say I think she has Scarlett fever now?

We had this with my DS in the summer and most of his classmates. Our theory was that because Penicillin V is 4 times a day on an empty stomach, or 2 hours before foods for it to be fully absorbed properly, that it's very hard to actually do this throughout the day with kids as they always want snacks etc. so the antibiotics arn't being taken exactly how they should be which is resulting in them not being absorbed properly and there for the infection not clearing up.

I didn't really think about that - will try to make sure she has all doses before food and not after!

It’s really tough isn’t it!! Might be where we are going wrong too.

Day 7 of anti biotics and tonsils still inflamed but no other symptoms

Blessedbethefruitz · 24/12/2022 10:13

I have this with ds right now. He had strep at end of November and now is on his 2nd dose of tonsillitis and 3rd round of antibiotics :( My baby is now also on antibiotics for tonsillitis, they're completely unpalatable for her (she can't have penicillin as I'm allergic and she's breastfed). Not sure what to do :(

Lolacat1234 · 24/12/2022 12:12

I asked the doctor if this is normal and he said it's nothing we have done or haven't done, totally normal, their immune systems just aren't coping after the lockdowns apparently. He said if it comes back after this lot of ABs they will swab and go from there. Perhaps just a very invasive, persistent form of strep bacteria!

My DS had strep A when he was younger - about 5 years ago. He was ill on and off for months - even after a couple of courses of antibiotics. The GP eventually referred him to a paediatrician. He had a month's course of antibiotics from the paediatrician, which knocked it on the head.
