My poor boy (3) can’t catch a break! He’s got tonsillitis and now since Saturday this horrible virus that’s going round. His temp went away for nearly 2 days and it’s back again today!

how long have other little ones been having the fevers for?

Hi WorriedMum. We're in the same boat. We had a sick 3 year old the weekend before last and had to cancel a trip to see Santa. He had a fever and vomiting. It abated within 36 hours and passed after 3 days. Within a week, the fever returned along with a runny nose. We've now had five days of fever above 40c. It responds to the usual meds but within 6 to 8 hours it's back up to 40 again. After reaching 40.9 yesterday, we attended with the GP who checked him over and confirmed that it's just a dreadful virus and said we can expect another 3 or 4 days. Antigen tests are negative. I know of another little girl the same age who is in the same boat and she's a day ahead of us, with no sign of let up :(

I’m sorry to hear your little boy is going through this too. Do you have any tips on how to stop worrying about temperatures? I’m making myself ill with worry x

So we've been dosing our wee boy with both paracetamol and ibuprofen. We dose the paracetamol based on his weight and that has helped hugely as it's quite a bit different to the dose on the label. You might speak to your GP or pharmacist about that.

Also lots of fluids (ice pops, ice cream, capri sun whatever the heck he'll agree to!), lots of rest (sleep schedule out the window but sure we'll get back to it in January), cool cloth on forehead/groin/armpits and a good reliable in-ear thermometer.

I suppose above all, remember that the raised body temperature is a sign that your little one is fighting off an invader. So long as there's urine being passed, and the child is responsive/rousable, you're doing what you can. Don't be afraid to go to your GP though. Nothing worse than feeling sick with worry.

Yes. I'm trying to enjoy the extra cuddles as I thought we were past that but equally I'm getting a bit sick of being stuck on the sofa.

In exactly the same boat, we’re on day 4 of symptoms and it seems like he’ll never be well.
it’s been one thing after another for about 6 weeks with 5 days being the maximum we’ve had between viruses!
I hope your boy is on the mend soon.

One of my boys has had this on and off for a month. Headache, bright green from nose and chesty cough. Had a course of antibiotics but haven't touched it. It's so draining. I can't remember when he felt good tbh and feel so sorry for him and I'm tired myself. My other son has just caught it too.

YourWinter · 22/12/2022 16:54

My littlest grandchildren have gone down with it 😢

Cherryblossoms85 · 26/12/2022 22:29

It's awful. I'm now going for getting drunk to try and manage the paranoia. Not a good option, no.
