Molluscum contagiosum

Hello, I noticed a rash type on my sons body a few weeks ago, we took a trip to the doctors and they said exsma prescribed cream. However the cream has not changed things and after looking at these spots they appear to look like tiny little blisters. Would you say this is molluscum contagosum?

Could possibly be the start. My DD had this when at nursery. It covered one half of her body (not legs) but were very prominent skin tags ... it lasted 18 months!!!! Hopefully it's not.

Blanketpolicy · 17/12/2022 20:52

Ime molluscum tends to be less wide spread initially, starting with just a couple of big spots in the same area.

Misty999 · 17/12/2022 20:52

I'm no doctor but my kids both had one still has it and the spots are more wart like and a lot bigger than the spots in your pictures so based on my experience I would say no.

Thank you very much I really hope not, I just don’t think it is eczema, the pictures do make them look quite small, but yes they aren’t as big as the usual cases. They are definitely pimple/blister/wary type spots rather than dry skin 🙄. His body feels so rough, 100’s of them :(

Could be the start of it. My DC had and the GP couldn’t have been less concerned and said just to let it run its course. Had it for months but when it did clear up it was rapid. My only concern was other kids pointing it out as it was in fairly noticeable area but never had any bother with that.

Oblomov22 · 17/12/2022 21:04

100's of them? Hmmm, It doesn't look like molluscum to me.

DD had this but she didn't have loads of them at the same time. They definitely looked like skin tags (that's what we thought it was for the first year!) she started with one and then gradually had more but they clustered (in her case on the side of her chest). The skin around them was quite rough! They've gone most but it took ages (I'd say 18 months) and mostly came to a head when she got chicken pox and then it seemed to be a battle of the viruses!
I'm sad to say she has few scars left but they are not very noticeable and I expect they will fade.
They were very red and angry just before they went but they each seemed to have a lifecycle.
That doesn't look like what she had.

Yes, it looks like the beginning of molluscum. The bumps started really small on my children and some (luckily not all) grow larger. Have a look at these pictures of molluscum. The page shows how mollescum grows. We found after our first child got infected that it better to get on top of it quickly, not what the drs tolds us. 😀

Skinhelptoddle · 18/12/2022 13:55

Thank you what is the treatment for it?

There isn't a treatment really. You can get a dab on thing that burns them off but from experience (my poor DS was covered in the bloody things) it hurts more than it helps. The thing that got rid of it in the end was him catching hand foot and mouth. Seemed to kick his immune system into gear and cleared both conditions at the same time

3girlsunder3 · 18/12/2022 14:34

My children had this and one child developed huge molluscum which have left bad scarring.
The gp advice was to leave well alone, however a consultant dermatologist has advised to squeeze the spots/blisters to remove all the white contents, which is full of virus so be careful not to cross contaminate - this creates an immune response and the body heals. Apparently these are the one type of spot you should always squeeze! I can confirm this approach works.
Check for a simple in the middle of the blister, if so squeeze!
Good luck op

My daughter has Molluscum for 8 months. It’s spread quite a lot. She’s been to the doctors and they say there is nothing they can do until 2 years. Has anyone got any tricks and tips? Please. Thank you

Mumma2Ro · 03/06/2023 09:53

both of mine have had MC. I don’t think this looks like it tbh.
my son had it for 2 years!! Horrible thing

Blogdog · 03/06/2023 09:57

Looks like the start of it to me. GP’s advice was also to wait it out but I would have been interested to try the squeezing approach above although it is quite contagious so you would need to be careful. All three of my children had it, one after the other. I would say altogether we had it in the house for 4 years +!

Blogdog · 03/06/2023 09:58

Just realised this is an old thread!!! Hope the OP’s child is better by now.
