Apraxia of speech

Hi I’m not sure on this topic as recently have only heard of this condition since I saw kammy on tv,
but my toddler is 30 months old and can only just about say muma and that sometimes comes out as ma ma.
there’s little things I’ve noticed after reading up on it that I’m quite confident he could have this.
I read some threads but I just wanted to know if I’m right in my mind to be concerned it is apraxia before I ring the health visitor.
he moves his mouth to say baboo ( his favourite program ) but it’s not how we would say baboo!
He looks like he’s trying really hard.
he understands everything I say and anything anyone says to him.
he just cannot talk, he grunts for yes grunts twice for no.
sometimes he tries to copy me but it’s not right. He makes animal sound for things instead of the name of the animal, but that’s not even correct I just know which one he’s doing from hearing them x

Thank you.
xx

It could be various things but you definitely need some support from HV/GP if he's pretty much non verbal at 2.5. Ring them on Monday. Has he had any milestone checks? Is he in any form of childcare?

it sounds like he might need to have a speech therapist I’ve a look at him. See if you can self refer to your local speech and language therapy services, in most places you can. The HV/GP should refer you so you might as well get the ball rolling earlier yourself. In the meantime this charity has some advice / and ages and stages with ideas of what age they should be doing things at. speechandlanguage.org.uk/talking-point/parents/ages-and-stages/
