Discharge letter waiting ages

My little girl has been in hospital for 4 days and we was told at 9.30 this morning we can go home and they will discharge us. Is it standard practice to wait so long for a discharge letter. A lot of the beds on the ward are empty so I would understand if they did not get time to do it. All her meds are ready to go too. Didn't think it was take nearly 5 hours

It always takes a ridiculously long time for discharge notes, usually for pharmacy meds too tbh.
I know the place looks empty, and you wonder what they are doing, but the ward you are on won’t be the only ward they are dealing with.
I’m glad DD is able to go home. I hope you get out of there soonI hope, I know how exhausting it is when you are with someone in hospital, I hope she will soon be fully fit.

Yes very long with us last year to discharge Ds . Our ward had 2 doctors but A&E were over stretched and needed them and we needed doctor to sign us off .
I expect the wait now it was same with my dad told in morning he could go and was 8:30 pm when finally discharged. Doctors being stretched around many wards and A&E.
