Antibiotic shortage?

Does anyone know why this is?

I know 2 people who have needed antibiotics for their children and the Doctors cannot prescribe the recommended antibiotics.

Due to the Strep A panic, doctors have had to lower the threshold at which they prescribe antibiotics.

Due to the panic, parents have a much lower threshold at which they contacted the GP for their unwell child, in hindsight it is inevitable. Instead of giving calpol to the child, instead people are ringing the GP at the first sign of a cough or slight temperature.

A combination of increased demand at the moment and poor flexibility in the supply chain due to Brexit and covid.

My niece has scarlet fever, and was unable to get any liquid antibiotics for over 12 hours. Then was unable to get the needed medication and was given an alternative.

Seems like madness.

GP’s are prescribing to children presenting with symptoms that ordinarily they wouldn’t give ABs for and more people are going to their GP.
