Hi mums, my husband had a very bad sickness bug which started early hours on Thursday. I’m petrified that me and my little boy (4yo) are going to catch it..
its almost been 48 hours - are we almost in the clear? Xx

He is contagious for 48 hours after symptoms stop. That's why schools say they can return 48 hours after last vomit/diarrhoea. This is obviously an average. Some will be less, some will be longer.

All you can do is keep on top of the hand washing, make sure he doesn't prepare food for anyone else and if you can use a separate bathroom then do so.

Good luck!

I wouldn't be too worried after 48 hours. You're not totally out of the woods (in theory you could be infected on hour 47 and then it could incubate for a day or so, but realistically you're more likely to be infected early on). Hopefully your DH was sensible and didn't go all over the house spreading germs everywhere, and you'll have avoided it ok.

Emetophobe here - have had CBT and taken advice from a microbiologist re bug transmission!!

The 48hr rule is to be sure that the d&v is fully clear. Once they haven't produced for 48hrs it is unlikely they will again.

These bugs are all transmitted through the oral/faecal route, so hand washing is absolutely key... and not putting fingers in mouth etc. You can sit next to someone on a bus who has noro and as long as they don't throw up in front of you, the chances of contagion are limited. It's only transmitted through the actually fluids... and if you breathe in aerosols as someone is being sick.
