Yep, that’s classic chickenpox, and the timing of 2 weeks incubation is right too. Did he have it mildly when he was 3? It’s possible to have it twice, although a bit unusual.

We found that Eurax cream worked best, my ds had it so badly, but he was older. Antihistimines also - not cetirizine as if doesn’t help the itch much. The one with chlorphenamine maleate is best and helps them sleep too. Hope it isn’t too bad.

According to our GP, when DS2 kept getting really occasional spots, some which looked like chicken pox, over the course of a few weeks - there are a bunch of non harmful viruses which cause spots but don't have any other side effects so they don't worry about them. The spots could easily be one of those or a mild version of CP. mild cases won't always prompt an immunity in the body.

It puzzles me why people don’t just get their kids vaccinated?

Because it costs a lot of money....

Albgo · 06/12/2022 23:08

Because it isn't done on the NHS and it's a fortune. Also, while unpleasant it's (usually) a relatively mild childhood illness.

mumof3 first time was classic spots everywhere when she was a baby. Second and third times much much milder. Torso only and probably only about 30 spots.

Immunisation for CP is not standard in the UK and has to be paid for, costs a lot! I think only those in the medical or caring professions get it for free.

In Australia it is one of the required ones - my DSs had to get a blood test to show they had an acquired immunity when we moved here in order to have it ticked off the list. (If you don't have vaccinations you are only entitled to the base line Family Tax payments so can lose a LOT of money).

Smearywindowsagain · 07/12/2022 23:24

a lot of people don’t know you can immunise. Wish I had. My dd had it twice.

Melroses · 07/12/2022 23:29

My DD had it twice - the second time I was convinced she must have picked up flea bites from a friends cat. The 'bites' were around for a few days but it suddenly spread all over, then they vanished by the next morning.
