Though these were warts…what on earth are they?!

My 5 yo had these little bumps pop up on her skin in the summer (July I think). There was a big angry one under her armpit, which came and went and a few little skin coloured bumps along with it that have got bigger and since stayed.
called GP who said it sounded like warts, and to see a pharmacist. Pharmacist said they weren’t sure and to come back another day to see another pharmacist. Well it’s something I’d not thought too much about until now as I feel like she’s starting to get smaller once’s starting to emerge near the bigger ones 😫
just been to pharmacist again who’s said it’s definitely not warts, needs to see GP and potentially referred to dermatologist- what on earth are they!
trying to get through to GP today is impossible given how worried everyone is about their kids at the moment so coming in here for some insight until I can get an appt.
attaching pictures of the ones on her side and her neck.

I should also add. These don’t itch or bother her, but she’s realising they are there and says she wants them gone!

Possibly this: harmless but can hang around up to 18 months.

molluscum contagiosum

1Sky · 06/12/2022 12:23

molluscum?

jusdepamplemousse · 06/12/2022 12:24

Molloscum contagiosum? (Sp!)

very common, very annoying, plenty of threads on here with ideas of how to treat but nothing is guaranteed to make them go away other than time unfortunately. Have a Google and see if you think it fits.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 06/12/2022 12:24

Molluscum contagiosum, find the biggest one, pull it off and they’ll disappear!

sleeplessinselondon · 06/12/2022 12:24

Could be Molloscum contagium. Both mine had them for 12-18 months, they eventually go away on their own but can become sore/inflamed and are really annoying!

sleeplessinselondon · 06/12/2022 12:25

Ha loads of people with the same answer in the time it took to type mine!

Oblomov22 · 06/12/2022 12:28

Seeing as they are big and bulbous, I would pierce it with a sterilised needle then put on molludab. Stings but works brilliantly within a week, forcing the body to fight itself.

Senso21 · 06/12/2022 12:41

Thanks all. I had thought molluscum but says they have a black dot in centre and these don’t. And that they are really contagious, but my kids all bath together and they’ve not spread to anyone else.
she also has a verruca at the moment - wonder if that and molluscum are linked

I'm the odd one out here.. could they be skin tags? X

dementedpixie · 06/12/2022 17:00

Molluscum can have a dimple in the middle rather than a black dot
My dd had them and ds only got a grand total of 1. They can last for years

Senso21 · 06/12/2022 17:23

@Justwingingitox Definitely not skin tags, looks like they are fluid filled.

I wasn’t overly fussed about them until I’ve noticed that new ones seem to be forming, and because pharmacist has said she will prob need to be referred to dermatologist it’s panicked me a bit that maybe it’s something bad and I’ve just left it for months

molluscum contagiosum

This is what I thought too. DS had them when he was younger and they took forever to go away. Unfortunately for him he had them all over his face.

Senso21 · 06/12/2022 17:24

@Idratherbepaddleboarding how do I pull it off 😱

OP posts:
greenfieldsblueskies · 06/12/2022 17:30

I was going to say skin tags as well.
I'm not a doctor, but with my skin tag I tightened cotton around it to cut off the blood supply and it dried out and fell off within 10 days. Only left a tiny dot scar

HamHand · 06/12/2022 17:40

I think molluscum too. My ds had them when he was a baby and I was horrified that the health visitor wasn’t more concerned. I think people just don’t talk about them. They look awful but never bothered him. I second the advice to attack the biggest one. I picked at it when he was sleeping and then, having had them for nearly a year, they all just disappeared. Something about the immune system not recognising them until they’re meddled with.

Heartstopper · 06/12/2022 19:28

I would agree with molluscum. My dd had them for ages. I didnt do anything about them but they became a bit itchy I think, or she had an itch for another reason, I forget, but I know she scratched at them and they went. GP told me abraising them (scratching) gets rid of them and it would seem he was right.
BTW, she shared baths with her brothers but they did not get them. I'm not sure how contagious they actually are.

Just pinch it between your finger and pull… if she’ll let you…

Yes they really look like skin tags to me. My niece has a couple that look similiar and I have 2/3. I have a large one on my neck and when I was 12/13 the GP tried freezing it off but it came back. 🙃 I'm not brave enough to pull it off but know a couple of people over the years who have done this and has worked for them!
