Hey, does anyone here have a child who's had an adenoidectomy? If so, I wondered how they diagnosed that there was an issue with adenoids and how the op was etc? DS is three if that helps.

Thanks x

My son had his adenoids out when he had his tonsils out. Reason being both were enlarged, more so the tonsils (not necessarily due to infections) but because they were so large naturally they caused sleep apnea and in turn this then caused night terrors every night too. He was reffered by the GP, then had to have a sleep study done, then they agreed to take them out. He was 4/5 at the time I think as he was in reception, now 9 years old.
It was over quite quickly. Recovery was fairly easy, better than I anticipated. At their age they will be nervous and there will probably be tears after due to pain. But plenty of medicine and lots of cold and soft goodies went down a treat. My son was eating toast after the op in hospital and was fine.
He hasn't had any issues since, sleep apnea has stopped. Only has a night terror once in a blue moon - had about 5 over the last 4 or so years. Best thing we ever did x

My son has had this done twice (!) first time round he was 4.5 years old and his ENT specialist suspected they were very enlarged. He had a sleep study which confirmed apnea and the tonsils and adenoids were removed. Sleeping improved greatly and the snoring disappeared. Recovery was really quick and I don’t remember his complaining of any pain. He still had difficulties breathing through his nose 4 years later and a CT scan revealed there was a lot of adenoid re growth due to allergy. They were removed again, and luckily again the recovery was very quick for him. Best decision every to whip them out (both times!)
