Asymmetrical crawling - please help!

My son is 14 months and still crawls asymmetrically, lifting his right knee and then dragging his left leg. We took him to the gp at 10 months to check his hips which were fine and they reassured us it’s normal for him to bum shuffle.

But now I feel awful because I didn’t realise I should be concerned he always leads with the same leg. We have been helping him try to walk, and I’ve noticed he always leads with his right leg again, dragging his left. I’m very worried the strength in his body is now uneven, and the long term effects this might have caused on his long term physical development.

I will contact the hv/gp about it, but Has anyone been in a similar position with their child?

Mine did this. But learned to walk, then crawl properly. But was 12 months. I don't think you need to worry until 18mths though xx

DD1 did this. She crawled by putting her two hands, her left (I think) foot down and right knee, if you see what I mean. DD2 crawled the "traditional" way.

Completely fine and evenly strong on both sides of her body.

Yes mine did this too! Never crawled like a normal human. But other than looking a bit silly it caused no ill effects and DD is now an active, upright child with no signs of crookedness Smile

My 2nd DS did this for months. He's perfectly fine. My nephew even army crawled. Never crawled "normally" and then went straight to walking when he decided he wanted to.
