Remedies for travel sickness

Dd10 has always had travel sickness (usually only in cars and buses) .. it started off as all the time, now it’s mos5ly morning travel. We’ve tried everything. Bands, tablets, patches. The last couple of times she’s been feeling sick before getting in the car. This morning they’ve gone to winter wonderland and she threw up a bit before they even left. I’m just wondering if anyone else has anything up thier sleeves... I sometimes get car sick but mostly just the nausea side of it and it depends if it’s country roads or motorways.
im not sure how to help her.

The GP can give you stronger travel medicine on prescription which does actually work. Anxiety can contribute, which if a child gets sick that easily is completely understandable so it is good to also try and use some techniques to help the child relax in the run up to the journey, eg discuss what will happen when you get to the place, have a good audiobook or relaxing music for the car etc.

We used to get 10 mins down the road before our child was sick. Since having the prescription med no sickness. The otc stuff is such a vague dose eg a 5 year old has the same amount as a 10 year old so it's not surprising it works less effectively as the child gets older

Anti motion sickness glasses. Don't necessarily make you look the part but they do work.

gp can prescribe stronger - my son gets horrible travel sickness too.
but if she’s being sick before even leaving sounds like it’s triggered by her anxiety now also. Do you have air fresheners or anything in? My son gips if he gets into one with any sort of smell! X

You need to have your exhaust checked out. Our DD had travel sickness and it turned out fumes were coming into the car. We recently asked our GP for strong travel sickness medication (we are doing a rough crossing) and he prescribed a generic drug which turned out to be Stugeron!

We found Ginger biscuits helpful.

I don’t think it’s this, we’ve had about 4 cars since she was born so surely not all of them would have this problem.

It sounds like anxiety around the travel sickness alongside being travel sick.
I used to suffer from this and worked myself up so much before the journey that I’d be sick before we even left. Trying to keep my mind occupied helped but I improved as I got older. Alongside the travel sickness medication could you try something else like listening to music through headphones to get her focusing on something else?
