Dd 7 has a sore throat, it came on gradually since Thursday where it wasn't too bad and she was eating, drinking and playing like usual but since Saturday/Sunday it's got worse.

a lot of her classmates have had similar. I honestly think it's just viral because she's got headache, sniffles, slight cough and lethargy. Her throat is red and no pus. She's off food and not eating as much and drink but having sips and small bites. On Saturday she had a slightly elevated temperature but it didn't stay up and fine since, so no fever.

my mother is the type of person who panics about everything and says I must take her to the doctors and may need antibiotics (my mother always thinks antibiotics are the answer for everything). But I honestly think it's unnecessary? Of course if she needed to see a GP I would take her but do I? we have calpol and throat pastilles and plenty of ice lollies, I don't think there's much the gp can do and irs a waste of time. It is clearly a virus!

any miracle remedies for sore throats?

Also sounds like what my 3 DSs have had this past 2 or so weeks. Along with my DH and myself. So many people have this at the moment it's awful.
Tsp of honey a day can relieve the throat. Cool mist humidifiers help my boys at night time.. other than that, keep doing what you are doing. X

There is a lot of it around. Many of her peers have the same, many have had raging fevers too but thankfully she hasn't! I'll try the honey thank you! Thankfully the rest of us have escaped so far but this morning I can't tell if I'm imagining things or my throat is feeling a bit sore too 😭

I would take her to the GP if you were struggling to control her temperature as that could signify a bacterial infection. As her temperature is fine, I’d just continue with pain relief and any foods/fluids that she can manage. My 7 year old has had similar this week, after a day off school, rest, calpol and lots of yoghurt and ice lollies she’s fine now.

My mother is like this too. Tried to get me to go to drs with mine for every little thing no idea why but it’s always worse than it actually is.

funny thing is I’m a paediatric nurse so I know when to take and when to remain at home and how to treat things in the house etc so her attitude is bizarre!!

for a sore throat I’d make sure she has pain killers regularly if she needs them. Give them time to work and eat when the pain isn’t so bad if not keen on eating Encourage plenty fluids. If she starts drooling or can’t swallow well, high temps you struggle to get down I’d take her to be checked over. Most kids ride it out but if you have concerns absolutely have her checked over. My son needed antibiotics for tonsillitis once, he felt better in a couple of days but really wasn’t well prior to that.

Thank you. Other than a slight short lived rise in temperature on Saturday evening, she's fine - I've been checking!

Thank you! My mother is a total nightmare. She thinks antibiotics are the answer for everything and of course they have a purpose but she thinks that she needs them for a cold!! She will go to the Gp for most things, she also exaggerated her symptoms when GP's were mainly only doing telephone calls and got prescribed medication which she likely didn't need.

as for Dd, shes drank more this morning than she did for the whole of yesterday so that's a good sign! She's eating small bites of food when she fancies something! I'm hoping she'll be better in a day or two if not I'll contact my doctors! 🤞

For this sort of thing I'd give paracetamol and offer a mug of warm lemon and honey, which is sweet and soothing and provides a bit of a distraction

My DM was the same about antibiotics, almost an addiction. I swear frequent, unnecessary, antibiotics left me with a poor immune system as a child.

I've tried to explain on numerous occasions but she doesn't listen. I dread to think how many times I had them as a kid, I have the nhs app on my phone but my prescribed medications don't go back as far as that luckily as I changed surgery, I don't think I'd want to know! She seems to think they are the miracle cure for everything!
