1.5 year old vomiting - TMI about the sick details!

Just after a bit of advice or to find out if anyone has had anything similar please.

My daughter had a sickness bug on the 5/11 - she was sick a tiny bit twice and then had one large vomit and then nothing else, she passed this onto my other child and me.

This weekend she vomited again on Saturday night - I firstly put it down to her eating a large amount and drinking milk before bed but she then couldn’t keep anything down overnight (even breast milk and water). Was a bit off colour on Sunday but otherwise absolutely fine except for a bit of conjunctivitis, slept for a good few hours and no further vomiting.

Yesterday she seemed to be really struggling with her teeth - didn’t nap a huge amount and was chewing her hands more than normal, and being very clingy, and then last night she wouldn’t go to bed and woke up as soon as I put her down so put it down to feeling a bit grotty from conjunctivitis, and she has some tiny blister like marks on her tongue that are the same as my son used to get when he was teething.

She’s just woken up and vomited again, she has no temperature or any other symptoms that I’m aware of at the moment.

Has anyone else’s child had this where they’ve had a bug and then caused them to become sensitive to certain foods which causes further vomiting or could it be something else that I should speak to the doctor about?
I guessed for Saturday that it could have been another bug that she had picked up but surely not a third within 10 days?!

The only other thing I can think of that I did the same as on Saturday is that I rubbed some anbisol (for teething) onto her gums last night too.

I've no real expertise here but I've known other children have bugs where they vomit every few days for 2 weeks then it goes

Really just replying to bump for you

Thank you, I was wondering this too but didn’t know how likely as she’s been completely fine in between with no temperatures or horrible nappies. Hopefully it’s just this 🤞🏼

There's so much about at the moment that it's really hard to pin point what's what I think. 😧
It is certainly possible for children to be so up and down with sickness etc. My boys have been there before.
Regarding the spots/blister type things on the tongue. I know HFM is doing rounds everywhere at the moment, re you sure it's not that? My friends LB had that but only a few spots on his bum/upper thigh and inside his mouth. Xx

There is temporary lactose intolerance after some gastro bugs.

I did think that there’s so much around that it’s probably just overlapping!
I’m not 100% sure that it’s not HFM as I know it’s going around the nursery but they’ve gone again this morning so I have no idea what they were!

Thank you, I did wonder if this could be the case.
Thinking back to Saturday and last night she had cows milk before bed which she doesn’t have every night because she’s not that bothered about it but also the meals had a fair amount of lactose in so I might lay off that for a while and see how she gets on.
Thank you for your reply 😊

Yep, my DD had this (when she was 5yo last year). She had a bug (vomiting) that led on to random episodes of projectile vomiting at school - turns out the bug that she initially had had caused her to develop coeliac disease. I saw a kinesiologist who advised giving her zinc drops (clear and tasteless in water) as zinc repairs the gut health. I would definitely advise it!

Thank you for your reply, sorry to see that your daughter had a rough time with it too. I’ll definitely look into that if it continues, anything to stop it for her! Has your daughter still got coeliac disease as a result of the bug?
I didn’t realise these sickness bugs could be so damaging. Hopefully with no long term effects 🤞🏼

Yep, she will always have coeliac disease now. Her projectile vomiting stopped but the damage caused to her stomach from the vomiting episodes led to coeliac disease (so basically the villi - the little finger like hairs in the stomach - were so badly damaged). Apparently it’s common for coeliac disease to be hereditary or develop after an illness.
