*PHOTO WARNING*Do these look like normal chicken pox?

On day 3 of chicken pox and have noticed tonight some of the spots look a sort of green colour. Just wondering whether this is normal scabbing or if it could be a sign of infection. Have read quite a bit about infected chicken pox over the last couple of days so I'm a bit paranoid.

They look totally normal to me. They get get a bit green or yellowy with the pus.

Yes

Shouldbedoing · 15/11/2022 23:18

There's not really much inflammation around them - perhaps the one near the eye - so don't worry. Are you using calamine lotion/cream?

They look normal to me.

Yes they're normal. Use aloe vera gel - cooled in the fridge.

FaazoHuyzeoSix · 15/11/2022 23:24

Perfectly normal.

Readybrek in a warm bath is very soothing. Don't worry.

The main thing to worry about with chicken pox is that a child feels totally well again and raring to go but is still infectious. It's so important to keep them isolating at home until definitely no longer infectious (generally a week) - that's when I bought a trampoline having previously sworn I never would

Thanks everyone that's reassured me. My oldest child had barely any spots when she had chicken pox so this time round it's totally new to me.

I've been using poxcillin I think it's called and piriton which seems to be helping her a lot so far. Also have porridge oats to give her an oat bath tomorrow I've been putting it off as I've been worried in case a bath made them worse but she badly needs one! She has spots over her head so I don't want to wash her hair with shampoo but would it be ok to wash it with just water or would the oats make it greasy?

Head and shoulders shampoo is good for pox on the scalp. Just don't rub to her scalp too hard and pat dry whatever you decide to do. You can wash with your usual shampoo if you wish, if she's quite itchy on her scalp then maybe just go gentle with a warm flannel and warm water placed on top of her head xx
