Mass on brain 4 month old baby

eastview · 15/11/2022 11:03

I don't even know where to start but I took my daughter (4 months) to the GP as she's done this flickering eye roll ever since she was born and they thought it was linked to reflux as did we but they referred us to a paediatrician just to be sure. They did an mri and eeg which showed seizures but found out yesterday that she has a 2cm mass on her brain. I am absolutely devastated and don't know where to go from here. They haven't given an indication as to what they think it is and we are just waiting to hear from them. All I'm thinking is the worst and I can't stop crying. I've been thinking about how I'm going to kill my self when my daughter dies. I feel hopeless and that I don't have the strength to do this. She is my only child and I tried for over 3 years to have her with miscarriages in between. They thought she was missing her cavum during pregnancy so that was traumatic too. I don't know what to do, I can't believe this is happening to us.

Sending you so, so much love @eastview and so much strength for tomorrow. You and your girl have got this xx

ZandathePanda · 20/11/2022 13:02

They’ll get a really good clear MRI scan if she’s asleep so that’s good. They might take the opportunity to do a ‘normal’ one then a contrast one in the same position to compare them. If they do this they do them straight after one another. Ask them if they are going to do this so you know for timings. My Dd had them without anaesthetic and she was free to leave afterwards as it was a scheduled one weeks before a pre-booked stay in hospital.

Take a bag with you just in case they want you to stay in. The babies on the neuro ward get lots of cuddles and attention and the parents will be there. My teenager didn’t appreciate CBeebies coming on at 7am every day on the portable tv though! You may get children up to 18 in there.

Best of luck for tomorrow x

General anaesthetic is much safest and more reliable that sedation for babies. You'll only get the results the same day if they see something of concern.

Toddlerteaplease · 20/11/2022 13:11

In my hospital she'd go to the day case unit. Not an actual ward.

StrawberryPot · 20/11/2022 13:15

Oh my east view - she's so gorgeous!

I hope all goes well tomorrow x

Muchtoomuchtodo · 20/11/2022 13:17

@eastview the Noah’s Ark hospital has pull down beds beside each patient’s bed/cot for parents to sleep on. The Ronald McDonald house is just across the road from the childrens hospital entrance on the UHW site. The facilities there are amazing and allow you and your partner to take turns who stays with your dd and who gets some time away to rest, shower, eat etc. My friend stayed their while their partner and dc were inpatients and they live closer than you do. Do ask about it xx

I'm surprised they let her go home!
Fs no words. When my cousin had a tumour in her spine at 29 they kept her at lgi
Do they think it's something else .. confusing!

Prayers for you xxxxx

Oh I'm so glad she's being seen tomorrow. I really really hope it goes okay. Just hold on to the fact that she has no idea what's going on, so although you are understandably scared to death, she hasn't a care in the world and is perfectly happy. She's lovely.

Your cousin may have been at risk of paralysis from a cord compression without treatment (based on the few details you provided), completely different from the situation OP described. It’s comparing apples and oranges!

@eastview Fingers so crossed for you all later today .
It must feel that your lives are on hold at the moment-
Try not to worry too much about the meds to make your little one keep still- MRI machines are very noisy and no way could a little one stay stock still without anaesthesia.
It’s hard enough as an adult not to move.
Will be thinking of you .
Best Wishes

Best of luck mama xx

@eastview its every parents worst nightmare, but you’re going to need to dig deep, find your strength and fight for her to be seen and treated. Save your tears, don’t waste your energy crying. You’ve got this!

Beautifully said @PatientlyWaiting21

What an adorable, happy looking girl. Beautiful.

Terribly sorry you all are going through this. She will be in my thoughts Monday. Remember, she is not suffering emotionally the way you are. It will be a novel adventure for her.

Wishing you the best. Drink lots of water and remember modern medicine offers a lot.

eastview · 21/11/2022 08:38

Thank you so much everyone. We are just on our way to the hospital now. I am so terrified. As you can see my girl thinks we are going on a fun day out.

I'm so sorry for you. Sending thoughts and hoping something can be done to help her and you.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 21/11/2022 09:21

Sending you love and support for a difficult day. Your little girl looks adorable.

I have a family member who had a mass on the brain. The mass transpired to be a benign tumour that was squashed between the brain and skull. It wasn't pleasant but it was all removed and there are zero side effects.

I hope that whatever is found today can be treated with as little impact as possible.
