Surgery for suspected Testicular Torsion & Recovery

Hi

On Wednesday my son (10) came home from school complaining of testicle pain. The pain wasn't severe but was enough that he was walking like John Wayne trying not to 'knock it'

We took him to A&E and to my surprise were seen almost instantly, and an hour later my son was rushed to surgery with suspected testicular torsion. It turned out to be a torted cyst which was removed, he had stitches and an overnight stay in hospital and off we went.

The urologist who carried out the surgery and typed our discharge notes told us to rest for 10 days. The doctor who discharged us had a completely different opinion and said he would be able to return to school today (son didn't as he's still walking like a chimpanzee).

I'm just wondering what other peoples experiences are with recovery and what is a realistic timeline.

Thank you.

He should be fine to go back in a couple of days when he's walking okay and pain is reduced and just avoid contact sports/pe for a couple of weeks until it's healed and he's fully comfortable. Don't have baths for a couple of weeks either just because of the stitches getting soaked, showers are fine. Hope he's ok!

My son was off for nearly two weeks but there were other issues too.

Do you mind me asking what issues and were they a result of the surgery? Thanks

My son has had testicular surgery and the pain was terrible for about 5-6 days. He couldn’t even stand having a wee. I think he could go back to school when he is able to I would give it thr 10 days because he shouldn’t be doing anything like lifting his school bag. Risk of a ball or trauma to his scrotum and keen an eye on the wound to make sure it is healing without infection.

@fortheloveofvintage there was a lot wrong of both sides, more than anticipated. He fainted when he stood up the following day. It was really traumatic at the time but all fixed thankfully. I think the child has to guide you with this, no one should be back to school within 48hrs. I think they can't do contact sports for a good while afterwards. I really hope your son feels better soon.
