Three year old nosebleeds

DS over the last year or so has been having more and more nosebleeds. Today he's had three, all stop within 15 mins and I know at least one of them 100% wasn't from nose picking as I was having a conversation with him when it started, the other two were at night so I can't confirm but he was asleep one minute and awake covered in blood the next so I don't think nose picking is the cause but I can't say for sure.

He's got an ENT appointment this month, we were referred for the bleeding but also for reference I have concerns he may need his adenoids removed, he has a lot of the symptoms of this, he snores, is a mouth breather, has a nasally sounding voice amongst other things. ENT issues run in DHs side of the family.

I guess what I'm asking is has anyone else's children had this and has the bleeding resolved itself over time as they got older? Does this sound excessive or is this common for a three year old?

My DS had their first nosebleed at around the same age as your DS.It came totally out of the blue and was quite a heavy bleed. He had a few more after that and was referred to ENT where they found that DS had enlarged blood vessels that were very near the surface in his nose.DS ended up having his nose cauterised under GA when he was 5 yrs old,and again when he was 15.

Did you find when he had it cauterised it made much difference? We had an appointment a few months back where he had one nostril done but not under GA, but to be honest the whole appointment was absolutely terrible and I had no idea what the Dr was doing to my son's nose until after he'd done it so I don't think he did a very good job anyway! This appointment is to talk about his breathing etc but I will ask about having it done again potentially under GA as I feel like it probably wasn't even done properly the first time anyway.

Yes,having his nose cauterised made a big difference until DS was around 15 yrs old and needed it cauterised again at an ENT appointment.DS is now nearly 30 and has had no more nosebleeds
