Toddler thick yellow toe nails

Can anyone help.. my 2 year old has the same thick yellow nail on both feet. It’s quite bizarre. The GP believes took clippings of all nails and found no fungal infection so has decided the course of treatment is to watch and wait. But surely it will only get painful. Has anyone seen this before in a toddler/child ? Any advice on how to manage it?

Sorry to follow up on an old thread, but did you ever get anywhere with this? My toddler has the same, like yours they are also much smaller than his other nails. I will make a gp appointment but I expect gp will be baffled too...

I'd keep it cut short and keep putting on something like vaseline to keep it soft.

We went to see a private dermatologist on Harley st who took less than a minute to tell me he hadn’t seen that type of a nail before and it’s unlikely to be fungal at her age and instead psoriasis. To which we can do nothing :(

Did your doctor manage to figure it out?

Sorry I haven't gone to the GP yet! We keep having other things higher on the priority list, but you've reminded me I should get back on it! He is older and more articulate now, he never says they hurt but he is sensitive e.g. about new shoes and if his socks are too tight.

How are your child's going?

They’re very much the same. Feedback from a dermatologist, podiatrist and GP is that it isn’t fungal but might possibly be psoriasis. For which there is no solution. Not even dietary or vitamins etc…

Looks similar to a family members and theirs is due to psoriasis.
