Child bitten at nursery

I've had a call from my son's nursery to say he's been bitten by another child. They said he was upset at first but has now calmed down and is playing normally. However, as the bite has apparently broken the skin we need to take him to the GP to "get it checked". Anyone know what the GP is likely to do in this situation?

You'd just need to explain the situation that you've been informed by school that this is what's happened, and they're more than likely to check that it's clean, probably give it a clean themselves, and wrap it up or put a plaster on it if needed depending how bad it is. I can't think they could do much more than that.

My husband was bitten by a child at work (we both teach) he just had to have a tetanus shot x tell the Dr what happened and they will advise, it will just be precautionary 🙂 x

You’d be better off seeing the nurse or do you have a minor injuries or similar near you?

Thanks all. I am mainly wondering if he's likely to need shots or blood tests etc. or if it's something that could be handled in a phone consultation.

He'll probably need a shot.

He won't need a blood test but he may need a shot x

Ok thanks everyone, I've called the GP surgery and one of the doctors is going to call me back, I'll see what they suggest.

Walk-in centre will be able to sort this out for you no problem.

Anunusualfamily · 09/11/2022 15:16

If he’s up to date with jabs shouldn’t need a booster.

IceandIndigo · 09/11/2022 19:33

They said he just needs a course of antibiotics, as a precaution. No jabs.

I can see you are sorted now but my son was the same, bite that broke the skin and nursery said he may need a tetanus, GP said as the biter was vaccinated he wouldn't and just needed antibiotics as a precaution
