Any dentists make sense of this X-ray?

My DS has been referred to the dental hospital after losing a baby tooth and the new tooth coming through being misshapen. The dentist believes she can see multiple supernumerary teeth on the top?

Are there any dentists here that can help me make sense of the X-ray? Which teeth are normal and which are extra?

Any dentists make sense of this X-ray?

@Pigsinmuck it's not the best image to diagnose off, the photo at an angle and there is distortion as well, these type of xrays can give blurring at the front as well.
It looks like your ds has lost his top two front teeth and he's got a new pointed tooth through. I can see what looks like another extra pointy tooth in the middle between his adult central incisors and maybe another in the area of his upper right lateral incisor. What I can't see is two premolars on his upper left but there may be distortion and overlap. His unerupted lower right canine also looks a bit wide at the base. So possibly 3 or even 4 supernumeraries.
The way to interpret it is count the number of teeth in each row. You'd expect 14 in each row above the baby teeth and 10 in the baby teeth row minus any baby teeth lost.
The hospital may want to take the erupted extra tooth out but they will probably recommend a watch and wait on the other teeth. Supernumeraries can come through on their own but sometimes they slow or stop teeth coming through but taking them out can distrurb the adult teeth and risk damage happening so a slow wait and see is sensible.

Thank you! He is only 5 and has suspected ASD so getting a still X-ray was tricky!

He has only lost one tooth so far, the new one that came down was misshapen which was what prompted the dentist to do X-rays and see what was going on.

I assume the hospital will do further X-rays and then see what happens? He is obviously going to need braces and orthotics work when he is older but hopefully they can do something to sort it all out!

He did well to stand pretty still for the xray most 5 year olds would. The hospital will likely take more images and unless they want to take that extra tooth out the may well watch and see which teeth come through by themselves.
The erupting teeth are still forming so going in surgically runs the risk of damaging forming crowns and roots. Patience is needed but yes longer term follow up and orthodontic assessment.
