Why did doc examine my child’s arms very closely

Hi I’m hoping some medical practitioner can help me out. I took my DS 6 to GP today. Normally very healthy but the past month he has complained of sore mouth/tummy and has high temps. He’s not very sick but this seems to have lingered a long time. He was prescribed an antibiotic 2 weeks ago which appeared to sort things out but yesterday the same complaints and high temps started again as well as sore legs.

Today GP examined him for the first time and found slightly red tongue, swollen glands and has prescribed a 10 day antibiotic but said if temp remains to bring him back Monday. I really admire and trust my GP.

During the examination the GP asked him to remove his sweatshirt so they could check his arms. They examined at them very intently. I was puzzled but forgot to ask why. I hadn’t noticed this on previous visits to doctor. What were they looking for on the arms? Thanks

Did the doctor look at your child's armpit? Maybe checking for swellings

Looking for a rash? Mottled skin? Signs of bruising? All indications of possible conditions

ttcchapter1 · 05/11/2022 01:43

Usually rashes and bumps as they present on the arms at first.

Was it the hands/wrists maybe for hand foot and mouth?

Doggydarling · 05/11/2022 02:32

Checking for bruising, I'd imagine

LunaTheCat · 05/11/2022 02:34

Making sure no rash , no joint swelling.

Petchial rash, skin test for leukemia . Checking it wasn’t there

Looking for rashes and bruising which can indicate various health conditions (including the rash a PP mentioned which can indicate leukaemia but also other less scary infections and viruses)
