DD15 and new onset hip pain

DD(15) started complaining of hip pain yesterday afternoon at school, then by the time she got home she was barely able to walk. GP said "sorry we are full, try 111",111 sent us to A&E where x-rays were took and apparently normal. The doctor could see that DD was clearly in pain with certain movements so referred her to ortho. She has an appointment tomorrow morning.

I am posting to ask, is there anything I should be asking? The A&E doc mentioned the possibility of a slipped growth plate that is apparently common in teenagers and may not show on an initial x-ray, I think that is why he referred to ortho. No bloods were taken - should I prepare DD for that possibility tomorrow (she is nervous of needles). I heard the doctors rule out septic arthritis and from a quick google, I am guessing that the clear x-ray (as in no fluid build up) ruled that out.

DD is concerned about how to get around at school and is pushing for me to ask for crutches, but she can be a bit attention seeking at school so I am unsure as to how real that request isBlush I think my concern is, if they are unsure as to what it is and take the wait and watch approach, how long do I let DD struggle in pain?

I’d definitely ask for crutches if she’s struggling to get about. Also ask to be shown how to use them safely to get up and down from chairs and on steps and stairs,.

They’re no fun to use so if she’s using them it’ll be because she needs to

Thanks @Muchtoomuchtodo I didn’t think about asking to be shown how to use crutches Smile

Definitely push for crutches, don't risk more harm being done! If she doesn't need them she'll be fed up of all the negative attention and kids stealing them soon enough
