High temp. since Sat told to wait it out? Is this normal?

My daughter has had a high temperature and cough since Saturday. The day before yesterday she was bedridden and particularly bad at night. The next morning I called the GP. GP called ambulance due to suspected meningitis. Hospital done basic observations and said lots of kids have been coming in with a fever for 6/7 days and to wait it out. She is 3.5. She comes up with some blisters but they disappear soon after so I think they are from the fever she doesn’t match any childhood illnesses. She always has a temperature unless I use a paracetamol suppository which gives her 3 hours of a normal temp. No vomiting but will not take the syrup. I just think it is a long time to have a high temp. Any more experienced mums who can give me any insight? I will take her back just don’t know how soon.

Hi OP, how is your little girl doing? We are on day 3 of virus with high temp. There is definitely something strange going round. My 20 month old DD up right now feeling poorly. We saw GP yesterday who prescribed antibiotics as one of her ears was inflamed although she generally has lots of other symptoms so not just an ear infection. We have been alternating with calpol and nurofen and find nurofen much better at taking temperature down. Usually my DD will take the syrup but is being fussy at the moment so everything going in her milk or yoghurt. Could you try putting it in some food or do they make nurofen suppositories? It's awful, we also have a 10 week old and we are so sleep deprived! I would get your DD checked out again as if my DD is still presenting with a fever in a couple of days, I will probably get her rechecked.

Thanks for replying and you your little one is well soon. After 7 nights and 6 days of a fever (which I did have to deal with using paracetamol suppositories I bought over the counter). I was just so worried at how long a fever could be left uncontrolled like that for with racing heart and not end up with meningitis like the GP suspected! Luckily on the 6th day she managed to bring her temp down naturally without the suppository (which is why she was discharged in the first place). Not looking forward to going back to nursery next week won’t be surprised if she comes back sick again!
