Hi,
noticed this spot on forehead on our little one who is 5 weeks tomorrow. It was not present at birth. Started to appear around 2-3 week time. Started as a small mark. Not sure if it is getting bigger but definitely brighter. Doesn’t look like hemangioma.
can anyone give any suggestions please

Are you sure it’s not a strawberry birth mark? My DD had two which appeared a week / couple weeks after she was born (one on back of neck and one on leg). I can’t recall if they were flat or slightly raised. I would check with health visitor to see what they say, or a pharmacist. My DDs disappeared by the time she was 1, and just faded away.

Hi
thanks a lot for your reply. We went to Gp and gp confirmed it is a birth mark. He thinks it is still flat. Did not refer or offer any treatment.
how big will this get ?
thank you

One of my sons had something like this. It was in the middle of his forehead - slightly raised, red and nearly 1cm in diameter - appeared when he was a few weeks old. We were quite worried about it but it had fully disappeared by the time he was 3 or 4. You would never know it had been there now. We were told it was a strawberry naevus.

My DD's strawberry naevus was about 10cm across - on her abdomen- and quite bright red, quite startling. It gradually disappeared over the years, became kind of speckly instead of a big red lump before it went completely. I was actually sad when it disappeared even though I didn't like the fact that she had it at first, worried she would be self conscious about it etc.

My DDs were small (smaller than 5p) but my friends daughter had one on her forehead that was size of a 2p and was raised. Disappeared by the time she was 3. I think it varies from child to child

Thanks for your reply. I hope it doesn’t get bigger and cause any problems to her 😊
how big did it grow. Not sure if we should get checked out with a dermatologist

I just checked on Birth Mark association and it is different for different kids and no one can say how much they grow.

My niece had one on the side of her nose right next to her eye. It disappeared before she turned 3.

Thank you.

That looks exactly like how my DDs hemangioma started. Wasn't present at birth.

Strawberry marks or hemangiomas can look quite different but the end result they look similar. Albeit different sizes.

If it's a hemangioma it's nothing to be concerned about they're harmless. My DDs grew quickly from 2 weeks old. She's now 2, she still has it but it's much paler pink and flatter. It's small thankfully it looks like a beauty mark under her eye.
