Hi all my little one woke up
Earlier this evening screaming and covered in sweat. The bed was so wet we had to change everything. She's back asleep now but again has no
Covers on yet the bed is soaked and has a temp
Of 35.5. Currently waiting for 111

Any thoughts? I'm so scared 🥹

Sounds like dipping and spiking temperature.

Have you given calpol?
Poor wee soul

gins89 · 23/10/2022 22:34

Yes she's had calpol 2 hours ago

How long ago did you call 111 ?

MarmiteCoriander · 23/10/2022 22:35

How did you measure her temperature and where on the body?

How did you measure her temperature and where on the body?

Using an ear & armpit thermometer both under 35.8

Look at and feel her peripheries (hands and feet). Are they cold/mottled ? Has she a rash ?

Depending on the length of the queue for 111, I think you should seek medical attention now at A+E or call out of hours doctor

No rash at all

Hands & feet feel warm but her head & hair is all covered in sweat and cold. Will wake her up very soon to change the bed again

I agree depending on the wait for 111 to answer and for a call back i would take her to A&E..

Christoncrutches · 25/10/2022 00:28

Is she pale? Cold to touch? Any mottling or blue tinge?

Christoncrutches · 25/10/2022 00:31

Also check for fast breathing/heart rate. Any of these and get her to A&E.

Namenic · 25/10/2022 01:23

Is she easy to wake up? If she is difficult to wake and seems sleepy/less responsive (when woken up) or fewer wet nappies or you are concerned, take her to a&e (or ambulance if she is not v responsive).

rumbypumby · 25/10/2022 01:58

Batteries ok in the thermometer?

I hope your little one is ok.

Crimsonripple · 25/10/2022 03:11

35.5 isn't a high temperature. Something like 38 degrees is. She could just be experiencing night sweats? My son gets this.

Its not a fever, but a low temp like this can also be a sign of sepsis. It's not only high fevers you have to be aware of.

honestlove · 25/10/2022 03:21

Sorry didn't read the whole thread but please Don't give Calpol/paracetamol at temps below 37 C
Because these help to drop the body temp (that's why we give it at high temp)
Low temp below 35 is dangerous for anyone let alone children
Best of luck

BigBagOfPasta · 25/10/2022 03:47

Has she urinated today? Not doing so can be sepsis sign.

Waveacrossabay · 25/10/2022 03:51

@honestlove giving paracetamol at a low temperature when the patient is not exposed to cold will have no effect on the patient's temperature.
