Hi there can anyone tell me what this is on my 2 year olds face ! Is it a cold sore , a dummy rash as he has his dummy in a lot or something else like a skin condition I'm so worried

It does look like a rash because of dummy use. You might find that this gets worse as the weather gets colder.

Could you try to limit dummy use to night time? so that he only has a dummy in the cot. You should consider this for his teeth development too.

Thankyou! You don't think it's cold sores ? Not sure what they look like in toddlers. Kids pick up anything these days .

It doesn't look like cold sores, no. It's definitely more of a rash. DD gets a similar rash when she has too much dairy as it turns out she's mildly lactose intolerant. But could also be very dry skin, made worse by dummy use.

Anxiousmum124 · 20/10/2022 11:29

It is a tiny tiny bit raised but not by a lot. Some of it is red and then there Is like red pimples on his face. I'll try and cut out the dummy for just nap time and bed time and see if that works. But I get so worried with rashes and it looks hideous too

A consistent rash is worth exploring. it could be an intolerance or an allergy. It could be over sensitve/over dry skin for which you have to take a more proactive approach. So if it doesn't clear up, I would make an appointment with a GP. But rashes can be quite difficult to figure out and I wouldn't expect a definitive answer super quickly.

DD had similar rashes when she used a dummy and we thought it was that. It took us years to work out she has a lactose intolerance.

When your dd had a rash was it slightly raised too ?

My son's was like this - he has a large mouth so as a baby he would dribble a lot and he always had a dribble rash. Try putting a light covering of a barrier cream (i.e. sudocrem) and that should help. As others have said, try and ditch the dummy too and that may help

Anxiousmum124 · 20/10/2022 11:49

Was it slightly raised too as his is just looks red and hideous. All round his mouth

Could be impetigo? Maybe started as a rash caused by dummy/sweat/saliva but infected.

Anxiousmum124 · 20/10/2022 12:03

Went to the doctors about it about 4 weeks ago and he said it was a rash or a dribble rash and gave him some steroid cream for it which doesn't seem to be helping . He ruled out impetigo as that is normally yellowish isn't it

at its worst, yes. It also got crusty when it was very bad and was then healing. Super cool. Not.

Anxiousmum124 · 20/10/2022 12:56

Was he in pain with it as doesn't seem.to be bothering my little boy at all

OP posts:

Nope. She complained about it being dry when it was healing up and getting crusty. We used lots of lip balm and I used to stick more on when she was sleeping and use bio oil when she was asleep.

But as I said, we eventually figured out the root cause and that was the game changer.
