Chronic Constipation in child

Can anyone describe their experiences of this please?
My dd(12) has been like this since she was 2. Been on and off movicol since then. Numerous GP visits over the years. Always comes back to constipation.
She struggles to go and her poo is hard. She gets tummy ache and nausea, all low level and normally we deal with it until the next time it flares up.
I'm worried though, is it normal for a child to have it so long?
Would appreciate any advice please.

My ds gets this a lot but probably due to limited diet (autism and allergies). We have had some success with a probiotic and fibre supplement.

DD had this throughout childhood but particularly severely between the ages of about 10 and 12 - it turned out to be more of a psychological thing than anything. She would hold it because she was scared of it hurting, which then created a vicious cycle. The miracle drug for us was sodium docusate, it softens the poo without any of the horrible side effects, tummy pains etc you get with laxatives. She was on it for a few months just to ‘normalise’ things and then was able to successfully come off it for good

Likely a gluten or casein intolerance, try removing each from her diet and see if it helps.

Hi all
I've not messaged on here before. I spotted this and was wondering if anyone could help me.
I have a 14yr old boy, who has been constipated since he was 2. I've always believed it was a learnt behaviour as he is very shy and when he started nursery he was scared to ask to go to the toilet, so he would pooh in his pants. Anyway fast forward to now, he is constantly going in his pants, he obviously knows how to use a toilet but he just won't do it, or he will for a week then start going in his pants. Been to gp over the years and back last week, been to hospital as they thought his brain wasn't sending the right signals to his bottom, that's all fine. School nurse is involved and has been for years, she thinks it's emotional, anxiety or possibly a form of autism. Gp last week brushed all that aside and has now transferred us back to hospital and I've phoned a Counsellor again ( 3rd time he has had Counselling). He is on movical again, hes had all the laxatives a child can have over the years.
I've done reward charts, and have been advised to start another one, as he's older and wants money, if he uses the toilet he gets a pound a day so at the end of the month he could end up with £30 to go out with his mates.
He has good friends luckily and hasn't been picked on as far as I am aware.
I'm just wondering if anyone else has been through or going through this and can offer a bit of advice.

My DS was the same, he had a coeliac test age 10 and that came back positive. Been on a gluten free diet since and he's never had a problem since. He is 14 now. I would insist on a blood test for coeliac.

Thank you so much, we are waiting for an appointment to see the pediatrician at the hospital I will ask them.
