Glue ear

looking for advice please and first hand experience.
my little girl is almost 4, she has been diagnosed with glue ear.
Its near on impossible to get her attention in a public place or when she is concentrating on something.
We had an audiology appointment in February then a follow up this week. Her results showed that it hasn’t got any worse but also not any better. They said that it’s bad enough to be offered options but it’s not bad enough for them to say that something needs doing ASAP.

We have been offered grommets, temporary hearing aids (soft band or conventional hearing aids) or waiting it out.
we would like to make a decision soon but would love to hear peoples opinions about what has worked.

she does get ear infections a 2-3 times a year but we wanted to edge away from the grommets option.

has anyones children grown out of it and at what age?

My DD started school in September. She was diagnosed with glue ear in March, after I noticed DD not listening in Jan. It took until July to see audiology who confirmed glue ear and hearing loss in one ear. I was told she would be fine for school in September. She wasn’t and is now bottom of the class with phonics and cannot read at all (she was better at phonics at nursery!) Another audiology appointment in October. Glue ear and hearing loss is now in both ears. Audiologist said glue ear wouldn’t resolve in winter but had to have another hearing test in 3 months time!!! In the meantime DD is making little/no progress at school!

The leaflets I received said most children’s glue ear resolves in 3 months. My DD has nee having hearing difficulties for a year now. When I receive the ENT appointment I will be pushing for grommets as it breaks my heart that my bright DD is struggling so much at school.

DD has just turned 5. She started struggling just after she turned 4 and her glue ear/hearing has only got worse as time has gone on.

No experience sorry but I do know that you can join the National Children's Deaf Society and it's free.
