Cradle cap?

My daughters suffered with cradle cap since she was a few weeks old. It was terrible. After changing to dairy free milk and a lot of brushing we managed to get rid of a lot. She lost all her hair from it as well.
but she still has a big chunk a lot worse than what her hold head was like and i don’t know what to do with it. It looks horrible. I don’t want to touch and it damage it to the point no hair will grow back.

but does this still look like cradle cap or some other skin condition? Thanks

Massage some oil (olive/coconut/baby) into it, leave it on overnight, then shampoo it off the next day, whilst gently rubbing the dry skin. It will probably need a few goes, so do it every day for a week or so.

Thank you. So I’ve been doing the olive oil over night. But it’s looking so angry and sore. The flakes that have come off have taken massive chunks of hair with it and the skin that’s left is looking very red. I’m worried that the skin with scar and she won’t get any hair in them spots anymore.

this picture is with the oil on so you can really see where the cradle cap is

When I put coconut oil on my baby’s cradle cap (which she had on her face) it went very red and sore looking. I got prescribed some 50/50 cream and a special shampoo from the doctor which cleared it within a few days. Putting breast milk on it was also suggested. She still has milder cradle cap on her scalp but it seems to be finally clearing up now (she’s nearly 1).

Worth a call to the health visitor? Or GP?

Head and shoulders shampoo. The only thing that worked on my daughter.

All the oil thing was just messy and very hard to wash out

DuneFan · 15/10/2022 10:17

I would give it a few days to heal before trying anything else. Maybe show the pharmacist if it's still bad tomorrow.

Johnson baby oil cleared my babies up but it took a few weeks of gentle treatment.

What shampoo do you use, have you tried changing? Johnsons gave my ds cradle cap but dove, which worked for him, set my dds off. You can also buy special cradle cap shampoo but it's expensive.

@DuneFan
that’s what I was thinking maybe leave it a few days and try and push the doctors to give her something for it. I’ve bought her cradle cap shampoo which worked when she was a baby but this bit just won’t budge. I’ve been using child farm unfragranced shampoo. I did use Johnson’s at first when she was a couple months old but switched quickly when her skin was really sensitive

I might have to try head and shoulders. Maybe I’ll give her hair a break for a few days and give that a go. Thank you

@kikisparks
ive been doctors and to different pharmacy’s and they’ve all just said olive oil to get rid of it and that’s pretty much it. They haven’t been helpful at all

Always found combing it out worked best

I'd use coconut oil from Holland and Barrett. It's kind of solid rather than liquid. It cleared my daughters up in a couple of days.
