11 week old slightly blue around/nose mouth

she woke up from a nap and I fed her. I noticed that she was slightly blue around the nose and mouth area. I didn’t notice it when feeding her. She usually coos and smiles after being fed but she didn’t this time. She just looked at me and my partner with a blank face.

this blue tinge lasted for about 20 minutes and I noticed that once it went she started smiling and cooing when I spoke to her.

my partner is on the phone to 111 and it’s taking ages to pick up so I’m writing this while waiting. Im wondering if anybody else has ever experienced this with their baby? Or what it could be a sign of.

Could the blue tinge be called grey? I remember the HV telling me that a grey tinge around the mouth/nose is trapped wind. Mine seemed to get that a lot in the newborn stage.

Soubriquet · 07/10/2022 21:28

Calling 111 is a good shout. I wouldn’t personally listen to much on here but do take note of the medical professionals

SalviaOfficinalis · 07/10/2022 21:35

If it was white/grey rather than blue then it’s a sign of wind. My DS used to get it between his mouth and nose, really odd - never understood how it worked.

But as pp says, do still get professional advice if you’re worried

Blewprint · 07/10/2022 21:52

I'm a doctor. If your child was blue then pick her up now and go to A&E. Please don't delay.

Flopisfatteningbingforchristmas · 07/10/2022 21:58

I would go start to A and E with one parent sitting next to your baby.

Canyousewcushions · 07/10/2022 21:58

Mine used to go a bit blue when she had a fever, even before she got hot.

111 is definitely the right thing to do.

ShirleyPhallus · 07/10/2022 22:00

Mine would get a bit blue around the outside of her lips between there and nose with trapped wind

Mrsmch123 · 07/10/2022 22:03

Used to happen quite often to my boy. I took him to hospital when it happened the first time as I was so worried about him. They checked him over and couldn't find anything wrong and said it was most likely wind. Although like pp has said when he's becoming unwell it happens ....and his hand goes blue as I learned the other day🥺Hope 111 have answered you.

sasscass · 07/10/2022 22:11

it was a very faint tinge of blue below her nose and just above her mouth. Even the camera couldn’t pick it up.
we are still on the phone to 111 but if no luck we will take her up to A&E. @Blewprint

Please listen to this advice. 111 could take all night to get back to you.

EspressoPatronum · 07/10/2022 22:23

I took my son to a&e with this when he was a baby. Turned out to be wind.

there are of course many other things that can cause a blue tinge though so definitely worth getting it checked out!

scrivette · 07/10/2022 22:29

My DC used to have a greyish tinge due to wind, but best to get checked out.

allboysherebutme · 07/10/2022 22:35

A and E. X

WorriedandScared93 · 07/10/2022 23:02

I would go to a&e whilst staying on the phone to 111?

Mrsmch123 · 08/10/2022 10:49

Any update OP

sasscass · 20/10/2022 12:19

@Mrsmch123 we took her to A&E, they did her oxygen sats and they came back 95%. They told us to bring her back if it reoccurred, but it hasn’t since. And that was it.
