My baby was born last week and she started to have what looked like a seizure while she was asleep we woke her up and it stopped we thought maybe she dreaming and if it happens again we will record and attend A&E it suddenly happens again a few hours later so we take a video and go to A&E we see a specialist dr who watched the video and take my phone to show her colleges and they come back and tell us it’s neonatal mycolus and it’s like a sleep disorder of the large muscles twitching and my baby should outgrow by 16 weeks old; it’s a benign disorder. Has anyone’s baby had this? It has my freaked out when she’s asleep watching all her body twitch

I had to Google what you mentioned - is it benign neonatal myoclonus? Like in this video:

If so this must be very common, not only have both my (completely boringly normal) DC did these twitches and jerks but sometimes they would startle themselves awake, or even kick arms and legs out like a starfish! DS2 much more violent than DS1 and he still kicks like a donkey in his sleep at 9.

I never worried about it because we have always had dogs who did the same so I assumed it was a mammal thing.

If it's anything more than the video then maybe it's something else but if it's twitching like the video I think you will be ok Flowers it's like what they did in the womb, remember all those weird kicks and flutters...

DD had this. We noticed it at three days old and went to A&E where they said it was benign sleep myoclonus.

She's now nearly eight months and outgrew the twitching by about 8 weeks.

We were reassured it was benign on the basis that it only ever happened whilst she was sleeping and she was perfectly calm and breathing normally throughout. The episodes were disconcerting though - sometimes she'd twitch for 15 to 20 minutes and continue twitching even if we held her close.

We found that certain things set her off - loud noises would startle her and she'd then start twitching away. I remember once in a restaurant the crash of dishes prompted an episode.

Some weeks she'd barely twitch and other times it was daily. But they did stop entirely by around 8 weeks.
