My dd, 14, doesn't have all her adult teeth, I'd say all bar one, of her molars are still baby teeth. Is this normal?

Take her to the dentist now. No, it’s not normal. My 13 yo has just been given an urgent referral to the orthodontist and dental surgeon (on the NHS) fo the same. Google it; she needs it seen by a professional.

BlusteryLake · 03/10/2022 07:43

I would say it's worth asking for detailed x-rays to check for hypodontia. This is when adult teeth have never formed in the jawbone and will never do so. My son still had many baby teeth at age 13, and it was because he was missing six adult teeth that will never be present. He is now being treated for it, and this age is the perfect time to begin if so.

TheOtherBoleynGirls · 03/10/2022 07:44

Do you not go regularly to the dentist?

SnoozyLucy7 · 03/10/2022 07:45

Why are you asking mumsnet and not the dentist?

starlightmagic · 03/10/2022 07:46

It’s not easy to get a dentist appointment anymore!

TellMeWhere · 03/10/2022 07:47

Definitely not normal!

TheSimpleLife88 · 03/10/2022 07:48

I still have a baby tooth now because one of my adult teeth never came through! 😂
But yes, go to a dentist - if you can. They can do an x-ray to find out where his adult teeth are!

CherrySmiler · 03/10/2022 07:48

No I don’t think it’s normal but I’m not a dentist. My 13.5 yr old DC is having braces applied this week and all their milk teeth had to be gone beforehand plus removal of an additional 4 adult molars. Their teeth are not in great shape positionally. They also had to have two baby teeth removed as they refused to fall out themselves.

Oh bore off. Could you entertain the crazy idea that maybe the OP is doing both? It's not a mutually exclusive asking situation dontcha know?

Dollydea · 03/10/2022 07:49

Take her to the dentist asap, I have this but didn't know until I was an adult, my molars are a right mess now and it's costing me a small fortune to sort.
If it'd been done when I was teenager then it would've saved me time, money and unnecessary pain.

properdoughnut · 03/10/2022 07:49

Absolutely not. Please take them to a dentist.

MinervaTerrathorn · 03/10/2022 07:50

DS only had his last 12 year old molar come through at 15. Dentist was not concerned as it was all progressing, in a typical order, just a bit late.

IggyAce · 03/10/2022 07:50

Definitely get it checked my dd age 15 has had her last baby tooth extracted so that she can have a brace fitted. We have also been referred to an oral surgeon to discuss bringing the tooth down as it’s likely to come down in the wrong place.

bloodyunicorns · 03/10/2022 07:51

Hasn't your dentist mentioned this or done an X ray to find out what's happening? That should be your first step.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 03/10/2022 07:52

DS had to have one removed to get his braces fitted as the adult tooth just wasn't there. I'd say get her to the dentist for some X-rays to see what's going on.

MinervaTerrathorn · 03/10/2022 07:58

When did she lose earlier teeth? DS lost the first 8 between 6 (almost 7) and 9 years old. Then the rest from age 11 to 14. So a bit later than average from the start. I would see your dentist to have it checked.

lugeforlife · 03/10/2022 07:59

Mine are 12 and I took dd2 to see the orthodontist in the summer re braces. He said she had a high number of baby teeth so no braces this year and back next year (so when 13.5) at which point they should be gone or else they will do something.

She is on 3 month check ups because of this and they think a number are almost out and will come out in the next 6 months.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 03/10/2022 07:59

No it's definitely not. Dentist asap as you can miss the window for adult teeth to descend.

Doingprettywellthanks · 03/10/2022 08:00

Good grief op

dentist app. Now.

welshpolarbear · 03/10/2022 08:01

My DS 10 has most of his baby teeth (only 4 baby teeth lost) and we recently got in with the community dentist about it. X-rays showed that he doesn't have a couple of the molars so definitely something going on,

Beat to get it checked out.

WoodlandPM · 03/10/2022 08:04

A couple of my molars are baby teeth :( I'm mid 30s

But shouldn't she be having a checkup every 6 months? Why didn't her dentist notice this?

WoodlandPM · 03/10/2022 08:05

I know there's a dental crisis but if she's 14 then she should have been registered with a NHS / other dentist by now. 🤔

Weird

Clearly hasn’t been to a dentist in years

will be tip iceberg of other issues I reckon

Herejustforthisone · 03/10/2022 08:22

It’s likely she doesn’t have adult teeth to push them out. This needs to be seen by a dentist so they can X-ray and see.

Does she look after them? Like other posters I’m guessing she’s not in regular contact with a dentist.

These primary teeth may her only teeth so she needs to care for them. Other than that it’s braces to close the gaps left by the primaries if they go, or bridges and implants.

fyn · 03/10/2022 08:40

I had to have mine all pulled about that age, I didn’t have any adult teeth above to push them out so needed braces to close the gaps. The dentist said they’d have crumbled in time if we didn’t nothing!
