Cannot.eone ease advise. Our daughter had her ears pierced 9 weeks ago. Bathed them twice a day with surgical spirit for 6 weeks as advised, all was fine. Then out some other ones in, after a few days they got a bit pussy. Changed to some which I knew were silver and bathed again, they seemed fine. This morning we took them out for PE and they looked good. Tonight we've been trying to get them back in and can't do it! It's as if they've closed up again but surely that's not possible in less than 12 hours?! She's crying it's so painful. The pharmacy we had it done at say they can't help, and I tried a piercing studio who say they can't touch it as it wasn't them who out them in. What on earth do we do now? Has anyone else been in this situation and knows what to do??

Don’t get piercings at a pharmacy, don’t use surgical spirit and don’t use silver jewellery. I’d let them heal then get them redone at a UKAPP studio with a needle. They’ll use implant grade titanium and advise saline spray for cleaning.

DD persevered for 7 months aged 12 and they kept getting infected and when she took them out for a break, they healed over within a day. We let them heal. She's y11 now and recently had them done again. Same process as last time at a studio with medical grade titanium and she's had no problems. No idea why.

Yep this.

I wouldn’t trust anywhere that’s suggested surgical spirit on a piercing, that’s absolutely insane!

Are you using the earrings she was originally pierced with? They’re often thicker, do you have a different pair of earrings that are narrower you could try?

Although, will you just be planning on taking them out for PE again next week? If so won’t this just happen again?

Maybe better to leave them to heal and get the redone at a more reputable piercing shop with a needle, not a gun.

My ears were like this when I got them done at 10. Felt like they closed instantly! I’d use saline solution going forward. The thing that resolved it for me was changing to silver earrings, even now my ears can’t tolerate gold.

yes they can and it might be the case that they were not healed enough to change or take out.

I think the only option is trying to push them through, if your Dd can take the pain or maybe try putting them in backwards?

other than that I'm not sure what to suggest.

my Dd has had some probs with hers. Healed pretty good at the time and have had no issues with closing over but she reacts to most earrings - the only earrings she doesn't react to are silver sterling earrings from Claire's!!

anyway, salt water mixed with cooled boiled water was great when DD's were a bit sore.

when she actually had them done she was given a spray made by prontolind to clean them, worked really well as you'd just spray it on and it would seep around the earrings and wound with minimal effort.

following on from my pp, you can get the spray on Amazon. It's from a company called prontolind, has 16,000 reviews on Amazon. I bought it from the piercer though.

The best thing you can do is leave them out and let them heal for a while. Get them redone on a few months one they’re completely cleared up.

by shoving and prodding an already infected wound your just going to cause major issues.

6 weeks isn’t enough imo. I’ve always had to leave them for a good extra 3 weeks before they didn’t feel so raw inside but then everyone heals differently too. You might want to get a pair of surgical steel earrings, some people have reaction to other metals like silver. Surgical steel should be fine for her.

I had this happen as a kid after playing sport.

Mum kept trying to push the earrings through until I vomited.

We gave up, let them heal and tried again in a couple of years.

AriettyHomily · 26/09/2022 20:33

Dts had theirs done in piercing place, they were told to keep them in for at least three months and ideally six. Going forward can she tape them for PE?

K1ran · 26/09/2022 21:06

If you have mustard oil, use that to clean the wound. And then re-try putting the earing in backwards. I took my nose pin out and within 20 mins a small stone type thing developed in the hole and this is after me having my jose pierced for years. Personally I used a sterilised safety pin to get the hole to open back up and put the pin in backwards first. It worked but I wouldn't recommend the pin for your daughter. But definitely the mustard oil. (It helps heal the piercing)

Thank you all again. THEY ARE BACK IN !! The relief is unreal! All those who suggested putting them through backwards, I could kiss you! This helped a lot, also putting ice on the front and back of the ear lobes. And her watching short reels on Tiktok, that provided valuable distraction from the pain. We are both so relieved that she found the strength to carry on trying. She won't take them out again til after Christmas! Thank you again.

Putting them in backwards always seems to work for some reason🙌 Glad they’re back in. Don’t take them out for as long as possible and if you do, only take them out to switch earrings

Jokat · 29/09/2022 12:37

Will do. I think I'm quite spoiled with my own holes, when my kids were little, I sometimes went weeks without having any in and they never closed up.
