About a week ago my son developed a little red patch next to his lip. I thought maybe it was the start of a cold sore or something. It's spreading and getting worse. He's perfectly well in himself.
Any ideas what it could be? I guess I'll call the GP tomorrow.

Probably impetigo. Infectious so don’t share towels etc. He will need antibiotics to clear it up.

He looks quite wet / moist around the area. Is it because you have something on it ?
If not - could that be the reason why , perhaps he is making it sore .

Oysterbabe · 25/09/2022 10:22

We haven't put anything on it, he's just had a drink of water.

Had he eaten anything like oranges , tomatoes , strawberry , or marmite more than usual ?

eddiemairswife · 25/09/2022 11:03

Impetigo, as someone has previously said.

That could be a fungal infection - angular cheilitis. I'd go and see a pharmacist.

Thanks guys. The pharmacy is a good idea. I'll pop in with him in the morning and see what they suggest.

How did it go ?

Wnikat · 26/09/2022 16:47

Impetigo, call the Gp and tell them, they should see him same day, needs fucidin cream

I went straight to the pharmacy after the school run on Monday but it wasn't open yet. I didn't get chance to go again so was going to go yesterday. It was looking much better by then so I decided to watch and wait. Today it's nearly gone. Not sure what it was, just some kind of skin irritation I guess.

As my mother would say 'the cold has got to it'. Happens to my kids too if they lick their lips when it's chilly outdoors
