Child cold swollen lymph node

dleef888 · 22/09/2022 10:50

My four year old had a bad cold that turned into ear/ sinus infection. His lymph node on his neck swelled up very noticeably. His dr isn't concerned at all . He said it can take a while to go down but I think we are nearing three weeks. It's definitely smaller than before but still noticeable . Has anyone been through this with their small child?

Not a child, but I had a swollen lymph node in my neck after having my first covid vaccination (common side effect apparently!). It took about 6-8 weeks for it to go away fully. It was horrible!

Yes, DS had this and it did indeed return to normal (just at the point where I was thinking "surely this can't be normal" Grin)

My DS has HUGE lymph nodes and they react with anything (bug, injection etc) but getting better as he gets older. You can see them from his neck all the way down to his groin (groin ones are always like grapes) but that’s just him (he’s had endless blood tests and all fine). Some children just react to things more than others. If he has no other symptoms (petechial rashes, night sweats etc) and he’s been checked by a GP then try not to worry but keep an eye for any other changes

Sorry, forgot to add that he had one under his armpit that was the size of a tennis ball after his Men B jab and took a couple months to fully go down. They say allow 3-4 weeks for it to go down but it’s good it’s getting smaller. If it stayed the same size or got bigger then I’d be more concerned.

Oh thank you for your response! I had no idea about that being a vaccine side effect that is interesting. I'm glad it finally got better for you!!

I'm hoping his will go away soon too so I can stop obsessing over it lol thank you for your response! That helps :)

Wow that is very interesting. Actually now that you mention jt, my son has had this one in his neck swell up before to colds. It just usually goes down by now. My older kids never had this happen but I guess everyone is different! Thank you so much for reply. Very helpful:)

I remember the consultant told me that he just has a very sensitive immune system as it reacts way more than most people. My DD never had any show up, and yet my son will have a sore throat and be riddled with huge lymph nodes! Try not to worry though as for some kids, it’s totally normal 😊

Only need to worry if they keep getting bigger - many kids get this whilst under weather

Foreverbaffled · 22/09/2022 12:19

My 4 year old had a massive swollen lymph node for months and months earlier this year. Even started a thread on here about it. We ended up getting it scanned privately and it was fine. To be fair GP wasn’t concerned anyway. The gland itself turned out to only be about 1cm in diameter but was covered with so much fatty tissue it looked like three times that! Am sure it’s nothing to worry about given no other alarming symptoms.

Oh that's very good to hear that it was nothing! Thank you for your comment! I really appreciate it! My pediatrician isn't concerned either but as a mom I can't help it 😄

How is his lymph node now?
My 11 year old has a swollen lymph node in her armpit. It's a bit bigger than pea sized and quite hard. We noticed it a few days ago and saw a doctor on Friday who commented on it being quite hard, but also found no other swollen lymph nodes around her body. Dd had chicken pox a few weeks ago, so it could possibly be due to that?
The doctor wasn't overly worried as she doesn't have other symptoms such as night sweats and weight loss, but I would still like it investigating.

Hi, just seeing your message. Well his nodes on his neck had just gone down to almost gone then he got sick again and they went back up! He's been catching things every few weeks since starting preschool! How is your daughters now?
