Chickenpox despite vaccine?

Has anyones kids had the chickenpox vaccine but still caught chickenpox? They've only had one dose (next one is in a few weeks, typical!) he has broken out in about 4 spots in total. Wondering how bad it's going to get and how long for?!

You need both doses 4 weeks apart to be protected. Could he have been infected before he had the first dose? Hopefully he will have a milder version of it.

We were advised 8 weeks apart and it's only been 6 weeks. It's going round school and his friends have it so I'm paranoid but it might not be. This is what it looks like at the moment.

Dd had the chickenpox vaccine (both doses) and still caught chickenpox, she had an extremely mild case and only came out in a handful of spots!

I'm just not sure?!

I’d wait till tomorrow to see if there are any more spots, at the moment I would say it doesn’t look like chicken pox.

Both my DCs had the vaccine and then caught the virus. DS only had a few spots but DD was covered - you could literally watch them coming up! Both recovered quickly.

Quickly enough to not cancel our holiday Saturday? Sad

Still clinging onto hope it's unrelated and just some random spots! Gah!

If it is CP how quick will spots develop now? Will it be obvious by morning? How much of a waiting game is it?

Yes my son is vaccinated and he got it but a very mild case.

caggie3 · 21/09/2022 20:07

How quickly was it over, Rickroll?

When my DD had the vaccination in the summer we were advised that she could still potentially catch it but it would likely be a very mild case.

GingerPigz · 21/09/2022 20:09

Didn't realise DS had it (he got it first) - 6 spots tops... it was only when DD woke up with a few spots that I suspected it was CP. Managed to get her a drs appt first thing. When I took off her top to show the go she was covered! Fingers crossed it's not and you still get to go on holiday...

caggie3 · 21/09/2022 20:14

Got everything crossed... He's been asleep for a couple of hours and I want to creep in and examine him for spots 😂

Yes my DD is 5, and double vaccinated and definitely had chicken pox this week. Really mild, 2 spots on hand, one on her leg, about 4 on her lower back and 3 on her face.
