I am not convinced this is chickenpox....

DD has had chickenpox before, but a fairly mild case.
She currently has these three marks.
They have come up very spread out - both timeline-wise and physically.
The first one, on her shoulder blade, came up about five days ago. The one at the top of her bum about three days ago, and the one on her side (that isn't a scab) just today.
They aren't itchy, she is absolutely fine in herself, she doesn't even know they are there.
They aren't blisters.
And as I say, she's had it before.

But I'll be damned if I know what they are, if it's not chickenpox!

What do you think?!

Some sort of bite?

Some sort of bite?

I thought that.

MKCH · 19/09/2022 19:03

I also thought that @Creameggs223 @HotDogKetchup but I don't think they look horrid enough to be spider bites, we don't have any pets so no fleas or anything, and I'd have thought that a gnat type bite (or also a spider bite) would also be itchy, no?
So even then I'm at a bit of a loss!

If they are all on one side of the body, it could be shingles.

If they are all on one side of the body, it could be shingles.

They are, but again not blistery and also not following any sort of track. One on her shoulder blade, one just above her bum and the other round on her side (front side).
Also she's not unwell, and they're not painful (or itchy).
Thanks though for the suggestion!

My daughter has shingles recently, started as pin prick spots and didn't blister for a few days, but they did track.

middleager · 19/09/2022 19:10

My son has shingles. They started as a rash/bite type pattern, but then developed into more blistery spots on one side. The most common place is the trunk I believe.

He's 16, but we thought it was bites. Took him to the GP who prescribed antivirals.

middleager · 19/09/2022 19:11

The spots were in a group though and painful/itchy.

purpleboy · 19/09/2022 19:15

Has she recently had covid?

30hourschildcare · 19/09/2022 19:16

My kid had spots like this, that I thought were quite similar to chickenpox and it was covid.

MKCH · 19/09/2022 19:27

@purpleboy @30hourschildcare
Not that I'm aware of. She's not been unwell, she has had a bit of a cough but she's at nursery so picks up bugs all the time, and it's prime cold season at the moment!
So as much as that could be it, I can't confirm!

I would do a test to rule it out. Hope she gets well soon

purpleboy · 19/09/2022 19:39

We all had Covid. DD had very similar spots, I had no clue Covid cause rash/spots but google it there is a bit of info on it .

DS (6) got chicken pox got the second time just before the holidays (both confirmed by GP). The first time wasn't mild either, he was 2 and was quite poorly and covered in scabs.

The GP said she'd seen a lot of kids catching it for the second time in the last year or so, so I wouldn't rule it out.
