Are these leukaemia symptoms?

So I’ll start by saying I do intend to take my child to see our GP however they’re shut today, and possibly tomorrow, so I’m just looking for a bit of advice until then.

I feel like my 4 year old catches bugs and viruses a lot. Right now he’s on day 7 of another illness and he’s definitely lost weight and seems really pale. I’m not sure if I’m just imaging how often it is so I’ve started writing it down to keep a record. He also seems to be really tired but this could easily be because he is tired and also because he’s recently back at nursery.

He often complains of tummy pain. But in between these episodes he can be full of beans, running around. No concerns from nursery.

He has what I think is a swelling to one end of his collar bone that has come up in the last week or so. It just feels like his bone but sticks out a lot more than the other side if that makes sense? Then this morning I’ve noticed a very small petechial rash, literally only about 4 dots.

I’m sure it’s nothing serious, especially because he bounces back between these illnesses and he doesn’t have any bruises that you might associate with leukaemia. But there’s just this nagging “but what if” voice. So like I say, I will definitely be making an appointment as soon as possible but in the meantime has anyone experienced this and did it, or did it not, turn out to be leukaemia? Thanks!

Firstly, are you sure your surgery is open tomoro (bank holiday)?
Call 111 and ask to speak with their Dr. They'll be able to put your mind at rest, put notes on his records at least. You can speak to your own gp when their open, plus you'll have 2 opinions.

Thanks for replying, we’re actually staying with family this weekend but I can ring 111 and have him seen nearby today I’m sure, I just wasn’t sure if that was overkill or me being neurotic.

I’ve looked online and can’t find out for sure if our surgery is open tomorrow but I’m planning to ring anyway. We’re travelling home tomorrow morning so i could easily get him to an appointment with a couple of hours notice!

From the symptoms described, a call to 111, and they will direct you so he can be seen today.

Hi @ItsCorn89, I don’t have any advice unfortunately other than to say I’m planning to ring my GP on Tuesday as my 5 year old has been pale for weeks and is also on day 7 of a virus he’s struggling to shake off. He saw the GP twice last week and was shrugged off with the usual ‘this is what happens when going back to school’ but my gut feeling is something isn’t quite right. I’m pondering anaemia (doesn’t like meat and allergic to eggs) but the symptoms are so similar.

We’ve been waiting on NHS referrals for 18 months (original area) and 6 months (new area) for persistent tummy pain and vomiting. I was recently contacted to say he won’t have an appointment until at least Feb 2023. I’ve had enough so I plan to at least request a referral for private blood tests etc. at the next GP appointment. I don’t really know what else to do as I’m made to feel like I’m over-worrying.

I should add that we went to the GP with a non-blanching petechial rash on an eyelid a few weeks ago and they weren’t concerned as it was an isolated area. It did clear up quite quickly.
