10 year old dizzy only at bedtime

My 10 year old daughter has been complaining that she feels dizzy/spinning when she goes to bed at night. She's fine in the morning when she wakes up, fine during the day, but at bedtime, she complains of dizziness (1 month now). Tonight she was quite distraught telling me "daddy, I just want to go back to normal." It literally broke my heart. Have gone to ENT and neurologist and all results have come back normal. What could be the issue/solution? If anyone has had similar issues with their child or successfully addressed this, I'd be interested to hear. Thanks so much in advance.

Could it be anxiety ? Does she get worried at bedtime

Has she had an eye test recently?
How is her diet or sleep?

Presumably a problem with ear wax would have been picked up by doctor or ENT consultant? Equally, any sort of virus causing labyrinthytis? Or problems with eustachian tubes after swimming? Ditto iron deficiency?

Is she watching tv or screens before bed? Tablets or phones? Watching You Tube videos on small devices make me dizzy.

Or does she have a very windy drive or bus route home from school? There is a form of travel sickness that gives you delayed or continued dizziness.

How about anything she is drinking? Any fizzy drinks containing caffeine? Or medication?

If it is a faint sort of dizziness, could it be triggered when she is standing up too quickly to go to bed after sitting on the sofa? Could it be POTs for example?

Or, hate to say this, but assuming your bedrooms are upstairs, and she has just climbed the stairs when it is happening, could it be a cardiac issue? Presumably the gp would have picked this up if so? Or has she been over exerting herself at sport in any way?

Finally, is she happy at school? Is there anything going on there that she isn’t telling you about? Could it be stress of some sort?

I hope she feels better soon!

Has she done a Covid test?

KnickerlessParsons · 16/09/2022 16:32

Tiredness?

KindleBlanketsandmugoftea · 16/09/2022 16:49

I'm wondering is it her eats, maybe when she's in a lying down position specifically the trapped wax could be putting pressure in the ear?

Thanks for all the responses so quickly. So as for being happy, it seems like it. She has lots of friends, plays sports and speaks enthusiastically about school, but during these dizzy spells she says she feels sad/lonely. As for being tired, she does get 8-10 hrs of sleep a night so she should be okay on that front and then with the question about testing for Covid, yes, we did test her. She is negative, but she did test positive approx 6 months ago (no symptoms).

If shes only dizzy at bedtime then try sending her to bed an hour early. If the dizziness follows her to her new bedtime then I suggest it might be psychological (which is still real but needs a different resolution to a physical problem).

Very good point Porcupineintherough!
