Advice for a poorly one year old.

My poor little girl hasn't been right for a few days now. She hasn't eaten a thing since Wednesday and has become increasingly upset and inconsolable. She has also had the runs since Thursday. Initially I put it down to the fact she cut two teeth but then she was quite sick Saturday night. Sunday she had a cough/sneezing and just generally feeling rubbish with a fever but in herself slightly better. Then Sunday night I started to feel sick and had the worst D&V bug for 24 hours. Thankfully my mum came to the rescue and looked after her while I died quietly in the bathroom but now mum is also sick.
Then yesterday she started with this really odd cry, not her normal cry at all. Still got a fever and still really not well.
This morning she got up and was sick everywhere, still has a temp and has been totally inconsolable. Not able to calm her or distract her at all. I've got a GP appointment in an hour but I'm not sure what I expect from them considering it's more than likely viral being that both me and my mum have also had it (and I still feel like absolute death - not in a D&V way but in a headache/body ache/wading through treacle/sore throat/cough way.).

Anyone got any tips for making the small people feel better when they're just absolutely screaming for hours. I hate that she feels so rough and the odd cry is really putting my nerves on edge.
She's also super sleepy. She slept 13.5 hours overnight, lasted two hours this morning before going back down and she's been asleep for 45 minutes so far.

Thank you!

Please don't take a child with contagious D&V to the GP! I agree she needs to be seen, especially with the odd cry, but pls tell the receptionist that you have both had D&V before you arrive!

Have you taken a COVID test? Could be that.

Hi lovely, I’d be taking her to A&E at this point as she’s likely very dehydrated and could even have sepsis which won’t wait for a GP appointment. I know you and your mum have had the same thing but it sounds like she has reacted in a much worse way. (I’m a nurse and I also have a one year old!) Best wishes to you and your baby xxx

She may be dehydrated. Is she weeing?

BloodyUnicorns - Oh I absolutely wouldn't without prior warning!! I called triage this morning and they want to see her and still have the covid side set up. So we are going there and we wait outside until they're ready and then when we go in, they'll be wearing full PPE etc.

She's SO thirsty and drinking lots (though trying to encourage her to sip rather than gulp because its just making her sick) but wet nappies are dwindling.

Honestly I think I would have taken her to A&E by the time I called the GP, but they could get me in at 11 and A&E is an hours drive away so I wouldnt have gotten there until after that. So it's quicker to be seen at GP and then if they think she needs further treatment they can get her sorted hopefully a bit quicker. Plus I'm not sure I could safely drive that far. Obviously if needs be I'll find a way but keen to see if GP deems it necessary before traumatising us both with the journey!

I did covid test and negative on that front. Though with the cough etc I had wondered.

This is miserable!

Good luck with your appointment. I hope your dd gets better quickly. Sounds horrible for her - and you. 💐

Thank you! GP checked her over and she obliged by not moving or making a sound.. just laying. They've said she's got quite a nasty bug and to just keep on top of water etc but hopefully will be coming out the other side soon. She has perked up a bit since her nap!

Oh, that's reassuring. Sleep is probably just what she needs. Good luck, op.

TheFrustratedRedhead · 13/09/2022 21:31

Aw this sounds positive, I really hope she’s better soon! The main thing is wet nappies and go with your gut if you feel she is not well and want to get her checked again.
