Taking siblings to a hospital appointment advice needed?

My youngest son has a urgent hospital appointment tomorrow.
My husband was meant to have day off tomorrow so he could walk dog and look after child but he has just got home and informed me now that he now has to work tomorrow, they won't let him have day off.

So my oldest son who is 19 is going to pop over during his break and walk dog as he works near by. But I have no one to look after my daughter and my second oldest son.

My second oldest son has autism and other medical conditions and I cant leave him home alone and my daughter has just turned 13 and has special needs and don't feel comfortable leaving her alone either.

Hospital letter states in several places that you can't take siblings with you to appointment only one parent and the child who appointment is for.

I dont know what to do. I can't leave them at home alone, I can't just leave them some where in city or out side hospital.

What do I do?

Has any one taken a sibling to there child's appointment were you turned away.

Appointment is at 10am so too late really to cancel.
Any advice much appreciated
Thanks in advance

Take them with you. I've had multiple turn up and I've never had an issue with it. Sometimes, as you know, it is just not possible to go alone. I would much rather see the patient than you cancel because of this reason. Hope it goes well.

Is this for a procedure under General Anaesthetic ?

FredandFloReadyToGo · 04/09/2022 23:44

I've always taken all 3 of my children to appointments as no choice. I called ahead and they said it was fine, one is a baby and the other too old for a buggy but said as long as she was well behaved and not running around/touching lots of surfaces it was fine.

Hope the appointment goes well, OP.

If it does involve General anaesthesia, then you won't be able to bring siblings as per the hospital letter. The child having GA for whatever reason, will need 1:1 with a parent post op.

It's a out patient appointment not surgery or a procedure. Appointment is with paediatrician as he is very small and not growing or putting on much weight. He is 10. They think he has a growth hormone deficiency.

I think I'll just take them with me and hope they don't turn us away. At least I will have tried.

Could you leave them in the hospital cafe? Or I would just take them and let them sit in the waiting area when you go in with ds if poss. I think its highly unlikely they will turn you away.

Take them OP. I’m a single mum. If I need to take one child to an appointment out of school hours they both come. Can’t leave them alone. What am I to do. Don’t stress yourself over it.
